Tame a shark or two and whistle for them to follow while you're on the raft. Set them to aggressive when you spot enemy players.

I think you could builds walls dwown at the sides (from a ceiling) and enclose everything with yoilings from below. Could hit the max structures limit though.

It wont let you build below the waterlevel, I tried.

Well it's simple really a ceiling won't snap to the bottom of a wall. You need to build 1 wall lower then you want and snap to the top of it. Once you are all done you can remove the lower wall as the ceiling now recogonizes it is still attached to the foundation via the wall above it.

I kept getting my walls BLOCKED by the raft itself, maybe I just didn't go out far enough to the edges.

The key is definatly in placing the foundations. I recommend starting with thatch use 7 in sorta a u shape to insure that the foundations align properly and overhang on all sides. Then you can upgrade and move as needed.

I wasn't saying you didn't I was basically asking HOW you managed to get the walls out far enough, did you place pillars ON the raft right at the edge? When I try to do my normal Foundation/Pillar trick to improve alignement I can't place the Foundation out far enough without it "dropping" over the edge. How many foundations did you manage to get to fit ON the raft, etc. Please provide additional details.

EDIT: NVM I was typeing when you were apparently

All you really need would be one foundation I assume if you could place it correctly smack dab in the center of the raft as they will support a 3x3 area. However I would not have been able to support the ramp and one of the set of spikes. So I am actually using 4 and plan on reducing it to 2 foundations when I upgrade to metal. This is on an official pvp server so progress can be slow...
