Tether Distance? Why is it still there?
I really want to know when it will be removed...or at least when an option to max it will be added...600 meters still doesn't cut it for me. I have a Local server that me and 3 other friends play on, and we live on completely different sides of the map. We haven't played in weeks (since they added this thing) and would love to get back into it, but the tether distance makes it VERY difficult to multi-task...like...at all. Would be awesome if they got this fixed (or updated) so we can play again...and I mean really play, not my friends following me around like creepy little slaves...

Yes, 200m is the base. I completly forgot that they added the ''non dedicated''. We used to play when you actually had to host a LAN, and then open a new ARK and join the LAN you have hosted.

We're actually considering chipping in 4$ each and renting a dedicated server. That way we could play even if we're not in the same room...

I mean....it would certainly kill 2 birds with 1 stone...

That IS the best bet to be honest and is the most suggested solution and if you still want to keep it private make it Password required (my server is).

Yep. then that's what we're gonna do.
and don't worry, I fully intend on making it password protected

if you are using mods on your Non-Dedicated sessions and wish to have them on the Server or any other settings changes feel free to ask. I'll help if I'm available (however if you rent on Nitrado they have a very strange interface).

I was thinking of renting from Hosthavoc.com
and yes, I (we) use mods

Great news! A friend and I stumbled across this answer. Even though the slider for tether distance caps at 3.0, just type in any number manually to the right of the slider. My friend and I put ours at 20 and we found this was more than sufficient for what we were doing, we tested our limit at something like 2500m with a setting of 20. I would imagine a good computer would need to be used as the host, but yup, There's the answer, manually input any #. Btw, this works for all other settings, exp, taming, etc. They don't cap at 3.0.

Don't know much about them tbh, I currently use CheapArkServers and they've been okay (got a discount trial period) have also checked into ArkAddicts and they are also promising.

I already went over that...

question, do you know if it's possible to transfer maps from my local ark to my newly rented server? so we dont have to give up all of our hard LAN work?

Yeah you can just copy over the save data I'm pretty sure. I don't know exactly how that works on the dedicated server, presumably through FTP. I believe LAN is saved in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Saved. But I'm not 100% certain. I also don't know the folder structure of a dedicated server but I imagine it's similar.

awesome.
though a different problem has just popped up...
when I loaded my world, it made me spawn as a new character, and my actual character is just standing there...unconscious...

I don't know how to get the game to load me as my character now. I don't have any recent save backups either...for some reason...

basically, I'm completly lost

this is good info to know. I was reading thru this and was wondering why mine was capped at 3.0 now, assumed it was a more recent patch..

did you ever get this fixed. I was thinking of transferring mine to a dedicated server for me an my friends instead of the current non-dedicated. One reason is because of the tethering. But I don't want to have to create a new character.

No I didn't, but that doesn't affect transferring your save.

if you open up an actual server, it's very simple to transfer your local map to your newly created server :) although your friends will have to upload themselves from the non dedicated server to the new dedicated server via Obelisk.

p.s. If you plan on opening up a server, I would HIGHLY recommend renting one.
I'm using Hosthavoc.com to run my server. Their cheapest option available is 15-17 bucks a month. I have had no problems with them, and the server connection speed is very fast with almost no lag.

Hope this helped :)

That may be true, but personally, I think it's MUCH easier and faster to just go to use ''cheat fly'' and ''cheat slomo 10'' and fly to the nearest Obelisk. the tether distance will immediately telepert any connected players to the Obelisk (where you, the host, is located)

It's a little simpler considering the only profile that saves to you pc is your own. Any other player profiles save to their pc's.
