Where is the best place to build a base on ark single player?
HI im starting a new game on singleplayer (because i dont get to play the game that oftern) so i was woundering where is a good allround locating (materials for building) i would prefer to be close to a mountain for metal but at the same time close to the sea for oil plenty of wood and stone and dinos both low and high level.

PS i am well aware that there many not be a place that meets all of the thing i would like but i can compromise :)

PSS :) if know the coordinates that would very helpfull

beach, with near mountain for metal, nearby forest for wood and deep enough sea to pen up some water dinos

Personally I found a good spot on the north coast around 18,42 on the map. Theres a cliff face with a lagoon. The lagoon is deep enough to house megladons and ichy's. Unfortunately the plessy can't get in. but at the same time a plessy can defend itself pretty well in the deeper water. There are 2 U/W caves within a short swim on a megladon. There's the bonus that there is a LOT of wood and stone around this area also. There's the North Peak to the east that takes 30 seconds to reach from the river on an argy. Lots of metal and crystal. Unfortunately, no Obsidian on that mountain. However, there's the smaller peak that is covered in Obsidian and If you place a small outpost on the Northern Mountain you can have a little network of mining facilitation. There are plenty of dinos that hang around the area and the mountains close by will give you some of the higher levels available. Note though that alphas do spawn around these areas. Wooden buildings are not advised near the mountains. Stone will stand well, although metal may be required to protect from alpha rex's. Luckily I have a lot of dino's so haven't upgraded my perimeter. I'll take some screens to show you the location

I built in the NE. There is a nice little grassland there, which forms cliffs as it juts out to form a little penninsula. There is a little bay, filled with fish and trilobites (if there aren't any, just genocide the fish; you should get a group pretty quickly). Most dangerous thing that spawns is the odd sarco, although I have had alphas get a little close for comfort. Was easy to bait them away using water, however. Raptors do come on down from the forest from time to time- actually saw one chasing a para right outside my window at night, and I know my dinos are killing them when the raptors try to get cute with them, unless its the odd dilo that's doing it. There's plenty of wood nearby thanks to the forest, plenty of stone and flint thanks to both beach rocks and mineable rocks, and plenty of berries in nice, big clumps near the water and on the edge of the forest. There's even a little lake that is half- enclosed by cliffs there- I use it to pen the dinos I am not using. Makes eggs real easy to spot. Mountain's a short ride away, but far enough to keep the nasty stuff well away. And megalodons spawn in the nearby water, so getting prime meat for jerky is easy.

I initially built in the South until i was able to tame an Argent, then I moved off the mainland to an island outcropping in the North. Safe from all predators, you just have to use birds to fly to the mainland for resources and carry them back XD so maybe not the easiest, but you don't have to worry about Alphas one bit

Northeast corner, on the shore between the island and the Mountain. Straight North of the blue ark ;)

Try Herbivore Island in the south east, at 84, 84. No carnivores, has every resource except obsidian/crystal, and can easily be reached by raft. There's an enclosable lagoon for your water critters too.

I like the location of my house at around 26ish 18ish on the map. This place is a natural stone basin surrounded with walls with a sloping stone ramp circling from the top of the main part of the land down to a somewhat flat area. This place is close to water, trees, rocks, metal, berries and just a short flight to the top of Red Mountain for crystal, metal, obsidian and Plant Species X seeds.

Here is a link to my library showing my house. My house is not complete as yet but I'm working on it.

If you wold like to see it then just log into my Server called Agharta. Please forgive the constant server stops for now I'm trying to get a few mods to work properly and may add in a few more mods. Currently I'm running Slow stuff Decay, Aku Shima, Tameable Titanoba and Advanced Smithy. I'm trying to get Vault Collection 2.0 working but it only seems to work in the top slot so that would bump the Slow Stuff Decay mod. Also trying to get the Roofing Plus to work right now.. works in single player but not on my server.

There are different spots that are nicely to build -

I prefer Hidden Lake on 21/67 North-East a Lake that has 3 entrances - Materials are easly to obtain - Oil (only deep water), Shore and Sea Pen is slightly a problem and can only be solved with a 2nd base near one of the entrances (North-East side preferably) - or you can use a Sarco that can go inland - for leveling Carno Island (North-East Island) is close by and to the south-east entrance there is a mountain with plenty of enemies - Raptors, Sarco do spawn in Hidden Lake - a lot of high lvl beacons are coming always close by

Otherwise Southern Islets 87/55 South a rocky, sand island with a small lake inside - shallow water close by with a lot of oil - Materials are plenty (rocky island) and the jungle is close, too - an easy cave (The Hunter) 80/53 in the jungle exists for metal and leveling - only dilos as predators live there - there is a possibility that a sarco could come from a small-small island north-east from the lake - only white, green and blue beacons drop there - no mountain close by

I see your base, and all I can think of is Bioshock. You going to build yourself an underwater Rapture too?

Around 47/18, between the two northernmost spawn locations for West 3, is a river with a couple waterfalls that end in the ocean. That river runs east and north between red mountain and the volcano. The lowest of those cliff shelves, between two waterfalls, has access lines that are narrow enough to be easily gated and to generally direct alphas away. Stone is plentiful, as is wood. A ramp down the cliff to the ocean is perfect for a dino pen, a ramp up the cliff or a walk around the cliff leads to deep forest, A walk upriver takes you to the volcano metal grounds, a walk north along the beach takes you to the red mountain metal resources.

imo best balanced place is in the north 1 spawn area, in the area due south of death island. Also a wonderful spot it near the river between Radiant Mountian (red obby) and the one.... to the east lol. Plus it has a magnificent veiw of the ocean and lagoon. Also iirc ( havent been there in ages) but I think the herbivore islad is good. Cant remember if theres metal or not there. However you will have to do allot of swimming or bridge building.

You, my friend, have missed out on one of the best atmospheric and story-driven survival horror games out there. You should be able to get it here on Steam real cheap now, so you should check it out.... would you kindly?
