PS: Since scuba, I dial in less oxygen so I add to fort....
If you raid an ennemy base that is placed in such places, you will simply die if you don't have any fortitude.
I always get 20 points of fortitude, it seems to be enough to avoid taking damage from cold or heat almost everywhere, I guess more points could be useful to save some food but 20 feels like it is enough.
I'm 69 right now, have farmed a lot of metal and never died of cold. In fact I just never died because of the temperatures ever. Yes you do eat a lot, but that's it. How can you claim it's a must have.
Think I went a little overboard... 10-14 is still pretty good overall.
To freeze at -5 with hide gear and a torch and lose health with 30 fortitude is downright annoying as is overheating while swiming naked in the ocean.
YMMV, depending on if you play on PVP, PVE, and how much you care about food loss.
Unlike Hide armor which provides the best warm and cold resistance.
