Mindwipe Tonic is the BEST exploit ever.
Resets your character back to level 1 and clears out all your engrams, sure this is great for rebuilding your character, but it also KEEPS all of your accumulated XP meaning when you simply get to reassign your stats and engrams again...

Bad? Definitely.

This enables players to simply learn expensive engrams, build 100x of that item then wipe and relearn something else. This absolutely is the best dev-supported exploit in the game and wrecks private servers as well as offical servers where players are more or less expected to specialize in building/combat...etc.

All I am asking for is a way to 100% disable/ban/remove the Mindwipe tonic from a private server to disable this exploit. Something simple as MindwipeTonic=false will suffice. Or allowing servers to dictate what the tonic resets, such as Engrams only, Stats only, XP only or both....etc.

Thank you.

And solo players? How else would they be able to do all of this alone?
Buying the game multiple times is not a solution.

Fractal, read the whole messaage. He wants a server option, which I agree with.

@fractal - Have you even played Ark? Why would you need to purchase the game multiple times? I am not asking for removal of the tonic. I am asking a way to control how it affects the game since its the single most powerful exploitable craftable consumable.

That was the point of the whole thing because people wanted to respec their character after they figured out the engram system as as more engrams were added.

A lot of games allow respec so I don't know how people didn't realize this is what it did. It's not an exploit. It's creative use of game mechanics that are otherwise limiting.

LMAO
1) To be honest the thing is expensive enough that if you have a tribe big enough to farm the mats for it you probobly have enough engram diversity for it not to matter. If your Solo Player for it then consider it an engame reward for building up the ability to farm all that yourself.

2) http://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/10/530646715633129364/
- OverrideEngramEntries=(EngramIndex=1,EngramHidden=false,EngramPointsCost=10,EngramLevelRequirement=15,RemoveEngramPreReq=false)
Just hide the engram in your server config. The option already exists.

3) If your using the Ark Server Manager 3rd party utility, just uncheck the engram from the custom engram list.

Enjoy :)

If they're stockpiling high cost items like that then they're just asking to be raided.
Pixie Sep 17, 2015 @ 10:02am
Its not much of an exploit. 20 rare flowers and rare mushrooms is not easy to farm. if people want to build stuff they don't have the engram for, they ask a friend or a tribe member. is the possibility of trading or being in a tribe exploititive too?

the potential for exploit is extremely limited, and not in the direction you've imagined. it would be much more exploititive for a tribe to make up a bunch of tonics before going to raid and giving all all thier members 1000 hp, for instance.

Have you actually tried getting the mats for it? It's not a simple task.
Et3rnus Sep 17, 2015 @ 10:04am
How is this an exploit? Do you even know what that means?
It's serving its intended use. You need some crackers with your whine.
Mez Sep 17, 2015 @ 10:04am
If it's working as intended it's not an exploit. Period. Exploits or things that are being used in a manner not intended, usually to confer some advantage or benefit. The fact one person can have every engram also isnt' really game breaking. Even working with only one other person you can have everything. Ignoring that, hunt blueprints for a few hours, fill in the holes and you can have everything. This doesn't really matter...

Yeah stat respeccing is the potential problem not engrams.

Wow this thing exploded fast :P

I don't play MP due to having a brick of a computer, but I did wonder about the mindwipetonic when I saw it added. On one hand yeah it probably does remove the need for specialization but also gives people the option to play lonewolf without being too restricted if they so choose. So how about MindwipeTonic=[no# of times it can be used]? That way people can go solo if they want but limits the abuse that could happen with the tonic.
Slayerjerman Sep 17, 2015 @ 10:06am
It's more of an issue with private servers as its game breaking. For example, on my server I have explosive weapons set to a very very high engram cost to make players earn them and specialize. This tonic completely defeats that purpose of investing for the right to use high level items.

Also the tonic is not learned as an Engram (else yes, i would simply disable it), it is a crafting recipe similar to that of dye or jerky... meaning you dont even have to unlock it to make it. Just pop some mats in and presto - you're on your way to exploitville.
