Make it easier to find your friends.
This is a really simply idea, but for some reason Ark completely drops the ball with it. Why is it so dag on difficult to find your friends, or anyone, on a server? If a friend invites you to a server they're playing on, you should spawn in right next to them. I was trying to join a friend last night on a server he's on, and after 3 hours of running all over, constant dying from bugs, drowning, starving, dinos, I finally gave up and went to bed. It should not be that difficult to find a friend who's invited you join their game on their server. Also, what purpose does the map serve? It shows the world, but with no people on it, or yourself, it's pretty much completely useless and doesn't help at all when trying to locate someone. I even passed someone randomly who said, "Haha, good luck", when I said I was trying to find a friend on the server. Is this really how you want people to think of your game? How am I supposed to help get others to join our games when I can't even tell them we'll honestly be able to find each other. This really needs to be fixed to be a lot easier to find your friends.

Think it depends on the server. most of the time if people are trying to find each other on our server, someone helps out. Also, depends on playtime, since it's not always full. It's rough to navigate the ARK when you first start, you can eventually build up a gps that helps a lot with the map, and coords can take a bit to get used to. I think with it being a full survival game, it shouldn't be changed, BUT I also hope you keep trying to find your friend, it's definitely worth it. You might have to build up a few things before you journey to him... good luck!

I also hate that the map I have in my car's glov box doesnt show my current position or where my neighbours are at that time.

just spawn ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ close to him instead of spawning miles away? He should know which zone is in.

Sounds like your friend was just bad at giving you proper directions. Or even a meeting point.

When I joined my friend on his server he told me what side of the island to spawn on, even firing flares off on a regular basis so I could find him.

GPS isn't till like the end of the game. There should be an easier way to find your friends than waiting till end game equipment.

Does your car also live in a world where's there's dinosaurs and alien technology?

I know right? And if I also hate that if I am unfamiliar with the area it's going to be more difficult to navigate

why not get your friend to come to you? gives you time to level up a bit by killing dodos and getting some basic gear sorted out?

You all are right, what was I thinking, comparing a fantasy online game to real life is totally the way to go. My bad everyone, carry on.

The big obelisks are pretty hard to miss. You use them when giving people reference ideas. Your friend should have helped you out more. For example:

What obelisks can you see? Only the green? Ok can you see the ocean? Yes? Stay there, ill be right there.

There are only so many places that you can only see the green obelisk and the ocean. Your friend must be new and not know the island very well.

Ever come up to you to say to your friend Let's meet up at one of these giant freaking obelisks you can see all across the map?

It's not that hard.

m8, git gud, there must be an issue with you and your friend's navigation if it's so difficult for you two to find eachother

Except Red Obelisk going there for meeting a newbie would be stupid.

Immersion. Our characters do not know each other yet. It's part of the immersion that the forces that send us here send us individually. At least we can pick a spawn area.

If this is your biggest issue with the game your in good shape.

Its part of being a survival game.

A fun part of the game was spawning in a general location, and finding your friends along the way as you scouted a place for your base, gathering supplies as you traveled and explored.

Not everyone has a GPS or compass right when you spawn in, so it good for new players to learn locations by sight/obelisk positioning/map.

"Spawns friend into base"
Player"Hey, welcome, head up the beach and go the the SE cave, I'll meet you there in a few minutes"
Newbie "What beach?"
P"The one just outside the base through the West Gate, just head down to the south part of it"
N"Which ways the gate?"
P" just look at the map"
N"What am I looking at? Wheres the gate? Where are we on the map?"
P"never mind, stand here for 15 minutes until I can show you around"
