Fan-Made Dossier: Archelon!
Fan-Made Dossier: Archelon

Common Name: Archelon
Scientific Name: Archelon Pacificus
Time: Late Cretaceous
Diet: Omnivore
Temperament: Peaceful

Wild:
Archelon Pacificus is one of the more peaceful inhabitants of the ocean. It is not uncommon to see a two or more swimming along in the wide oceans and reefs surrounding the island. They don't seem to mind humans, and don't bother very much with other creatures. They mainly diet on soft-bodied creatures such as the jellyfish of the island and squids or mollusks as well, although they have been seen to eat seaweed as well. Every year during their mating season, they will lay eggs in nests on the beach, the only time they ever go onto land. These eggs are extremely nutritious and lead to many creatures, mainly sea birds and dinosaurs, to linger around the beaches during these times.

Domesticated:
While it is smart enough to be domesticated, tribes don't really use them. They are quite slow, and while they can carry a lot and have a sharp beak, they are mainly hunted. Many tribes go out on open hunts for Archelon, even if they don't provide a lot of meat, due to their shells and diets. Killing an Archelon can sometimes give you things such as the venomous stingers of the jellyfish they eat, but mainly their shells which are connected to them. Archelons shells are extremely large and durable, to help protect them from the oceans large variety of huge predators, which makes them a hard prey to kill. However, their shells are very valuable for sometimes jewelry and even armor, because of how strong it is.

Authors notes:
It obviously isn't as pretty or well rehearsed as my other dossiers, but I still tried to be creative! If you want any links to dossiers I have made, or want me to make a dossier for a creature you want, just ask! Also, tell me what you think!!! :) I'd love to see these gentle giants.
Thanks for reading!

I Want MY Burd Sep 16, 2015 @ 6:34pm
Personally, I'd like it better if it had some use when tamed. Even if it's something trivial lol. But I wouldn't mind this

I think it's biggest use, if tamed, would probably be a great mount for carrying stuff because while not too slow or not extremelt powerful, it would be an amazing pack-mule mount if you wanted a huge amount of health. Also it's eggs would probably be very useful imo ;)

EDIT: Just found out there are other Archelon dossiers out there!!! Very unique indeed. I think my version of the Archelon is more of a pack-mule water mount that wouldn't be so lumbering slow as the mosasaur sounds and carry a lot more, as well as being peaceful to players unlike everything else other than fish and dolphins. Plus they'd just be great overall for oceans atmosphere and for armor!

actually, archelons didn't have a hard shell, they were leather-back turtles but bigger. a shark could easily munch through the 'shell' in one bite.

Immunity to jellyfish/ability to process them into usable material would be a useful trait.

Oh, I know. I did a bit of research on them before. But the hard shell would give it some usefulness, plus it isn't a real Archelon species. It'd probably have adapted a harder she'll for all the giant creatures that will actually be in the oceans of ARK
