Cant Kill a Dilo
I am pretty new to the game and I know that this is no problem at all to anyone over level 10.
But I keep getting killed my those little Dilophosaurs.
I never starved, died of dehydration, drowned or fell deadly, but I bet I got killed by then around 20 times.
I started a sp game at the western coast, played my game, kept dying, came back, built a house.
Now I though it was time to finally try and tame my first dino. After knocking out a parasaur and feeding it all day long, so the taming meter was around half full, a Dilo came, killed me, when I came back, it also killed the parasaur and was still there. Then it killed me again and I respawed very far north.

What am I supposed to do against them while at low level?

hitting them a few times with your fist will help, they have low torpor, and 1 or 2 spears is even enough to kill a 120 (1 spear is more then enough if you throw it in its head). I really don't get why you have such a problem with them.

Unless the Dilo is a really high level you shouldn't be losing to one I could understand it being multiple dilos at a time but if your being beaten by 1 dilo then you have to be doing something wrong, like not fighting back at all.

Tame the dilos. They tame faster than a parasaur and can protect you from other dilos.

You will need a sling shot, rocks, narco berries(or narcotics), and meat.

Hunt down the dilo you want, get up on a rock that he will not be able to climb; that is, the side yoiu climb up will be on the opposiste side of the rock you are going to shoot him from.

It will take some practice and patience, but if you can hit him once with the sling shot, you can draw him over and knock him out with the sling shot.

You may also be able to use the shoot and run technique, but it has been a while since I was new, so I am not sure about that.

Rinse and repeat with a few more dilos, and you will have a little mob that can help you out.

We have used dilos to take out alpha raptors; but you will need a higher level and larger pack for that.

Just level your dilo for HP and attack. You can even use them to carry stuff for you, just don't over load them.

Once you get tranq arrows, getting dilos is easy.

A dilo was the very first thing I died to as well (with 2 minutes of waking up for the first time on the beach).

Even with no points in melee damage, they shouldn't take more than a few hits with a hatchet or pick-axe, or as Derunik said, a single spear in the head can do it.

Just be sure to sidestep the poison they spit :) it's a lot easier to kill them when you can see clearly :)

Once you have good armor, smacking dilos around is easy. Little harder when you are new with no armor or just cloth armor, expect for the elite skillz crowd of course.

If you are going to use the spear, make sure to have more than one, as they love to break in the middle of combat.

You can knock them out naked with your fists, throw some meat in the Dilo, some Narcoberries (don't forget to remote-use the berries) and in no time you've 3-5 dilos to protect you. They still don't protect tames so either protect the tame or lure them in your base. While trying to tame Dinos put your ones to passive until it's unconcious.

They might blind you when fighting against them, still they continue to stand in front of you. Smash-smash - waiting to get tamed.

P.S.: Don't be afk when out in the wild. That's always stupid. Go into your hut.

Also, the above method works for trikes, but do be careful, as they can climb rocks better than you think they can.

Last time I started over, first thing I tamed was a large trike, which later saved me from a trex; I was not even close to the level I needed for making a saddle.

Also, the dilos are good protection from ants. They love to crunch those things.

This^^ they break less fast and do more damage if you throw them. also 1-2 (tranq)arrows should be enough to end them.

The story has a happy or at least open ending: It turned out the Parasaur survived, It just wasn't where I expected it to be.
Especially with 'Dolly' (Thats her name) on my side, smacking dilos around is easy. I noticed that I should always have spears with me, because killing dilos is really easy using them. Dolly is now rideable, strong and a good help building my base.
Here are some screens of her and our adventures!

I heard a weird noise outside, when I came out there was a gigantic crocodile eating my dodos and attacking dolly. We managed to kill it.

After hours of farming xp and resources I now finally have my first rideable dino.
She got lost after an hour, and I had to search her.
Found her :D

For killing Dilos, use a spear and back away quickly, poking them when they get near (their pursuit speed is faster than your backpedal, but the spear will keep them from touching you). Make sure you have a few, though, in case one breaks. And watch out for other dilos; they love to swarm you and one hit from their spit can make things very dangerous.

For taming them, same deal, but back up while shooting with a slingshot. You may occasionally have to sprint a bit to gain some breathing room, so make sure you watch your Stamina.

Even if you don't have armor, Dilos are no problem at all once you have 2-3 spears. You can technically do it with one, but it's safe to have a few backups because spears break at random.

If you see the frill, back away and to either side. The flight speed of their spit is slow, so they will in all likelihood miss.

Dilos are social animals, so if you can, check the area for more dilos before fighting one or you may find yourself blinded from behind.

Poke the dilo as it runs toward you from as far away as possible while backing up. At lower levels and base movement speed, the Dilo will probably gain ground on you. When it starts to get close, turn around and sprint away to open up more distance.

Rinse and repeat; Dilo-slaying made easy.

Edit: For the crocs... it's really easy to get them stuck on trees. So rather than fighting them head-on, run through some trees so that it gets stuck. Then you can just poke it in the nose until it dies.

trikes have always been my 1st tame. I go streight to slingshot grab some rocks and kite em around. As far as dillos some people circle strafe while punching them in the face. This has the benifit of reliably avoiding the blind me me spit and a dillos attack doesn't have much aoe to it so you'll take litle damage. If this method contributes to motion sickness or the method just isn't clicking for you; as some have suggested unless it's a high level dillo even nekkid you should be able to box it into submission. With multible dillos at once however, rambo boxing is not recommended.

Thanks. This game has the most welcoming community in any ive played so far. I met a guy who let me in his base, gave me food and drink, metal tools and a gun.

I had a guy build a hut, give me supplies and a parasaur. Of course, as soon as the hut was built, the place became a raptor spawn! Happens all the time O.o
