Only Alphas (and Maybe Pachy's) break stone.
This. Make the perimeter 3 high and I believe the rexes won't be able to make it over them.
Thought 4 high was required to stop Rex vision.
If you want to protect a cheap foundation you could always stick a ring of metal spikes around the building. You could also place Metal Fence foundations around the base of your house, put 1 wall high walls on those and protect the foundations.
I like that idea, but am a bit concerned about not having a roof
I think you misunderstood. I mean still build you structure xbyx foundations place your walls/ceilings etc. Then stick the fence foundations around the base of your house (except where the door is) and stick a 1 high metal/stone wall on them, circle that with metal spikes.
plus rexes can glitch climb over 3 high, arex and spinos can glitch climb over 4 high lol
TLDR: 5 high fence req to be completely safe
if youre set on luring alphas to your base to snipe down and kill, maybe build a metal tower out the front of the base with windows/doorways/platforms/hatches to shoot at the alpha, it would aggro you but be unable to actually reach & damage you. would be handy for just about anything actually
