Feeding Troughs and Kibble
So I was wondering, I know Tamed Dinos will last quite a long time if they aren't used and even longer if no one from the tribe is nearby allowing them to enter a sort of "hibernation" state. However say for example that you wanted to keep your Dinos fed the longest if they are never really allowed to enter a "hibernation" state (due to tribe-mates popping on/off at random intervals).

So has anyone attempted with a large dino population filling a Feeding Trough with say a 100 stack of Dodo Egg Kibble? I mean in theory both herbivores and carnivores will eat the kibble, all dinos will eat less often (100 hunger instead of 50), and with a spoil time of 12 hours in trough (3hrs x 4) the stack will take almost 2 months before it all spoils.

I haven't tested this but in theory you could spend an hour cooking up a stack and keep your dinos fed and alive for an extended break of almost 2 months or longer before they started starving to death. Has anyone tried this before? Or tested the viability of something simple like Dodo kibble being used for feeding purposes instead of just taming?

Good question... Maybe I'll give it a try once I mass my army and start building my remote bases.

That sounds like expensive food
The spoil rate in a trough is the same as the spoil rate in a dino, so I would think just stack a bunch of berrys and cooked meat, you should be good for quite some time

While cooked meat is an option it still has a spoil rate of 20min, so a stack of 30 will only last a little over a day at 40 hours AND is only viable on one type of dino (carnivore).

In theory a stack of cooked meat jerky would be best, but the crafting time for a stack of 30 of that is almost 2 days compared to 50min it would take for the kibble.

AND with either of these options you still need to find a long lasting alternative for feeding the herbivore dinos. Because a stack of berries will only last ~66hrs.

And Dodo egg kibble isn't really all that expensive. It'd be worth trying, to say the least.

Especially since my 3 female dodos lay eggs like they are going out of style.

Yeah, I keep a pack of dodos around for poop for fertilizer, and I just stopped collecting eggs at a stack in the fridge.

I can not feed my dinos for 4 days on PvE369 and the dodo's and dilos will be about half way hungry.....Honestly just feed em once a week. The larger dinos can last 2 weeks to over a month.

the thing is, it takes an extremely long time for most dinos to simply die of starvation, we're talking weeks nearly so long as they are inactive and just standing there.. They only really need to be fed once in a blue moon. Truthfully if you did need to step away from ark for several months, it's probably best you just start fresh anyway, if you are logged out for that length of time, don't your dinos end up unclaimed anyway?

I suggested yesterday we need a "common kibble" where any excess eggs/veg could be rolled into a feed trough kibble for just this reason.

Given that some eggs I never use and Dodo eggs are easy to acquire.....

DinoBix ?

As I pointed out earlier, I am aware that it takes a fair length of time for things to begin starving to death. But for some context on why I'm asking is that I play on a Private Server with a single smaller tribe. We have managed to amass around 5-6 smaller bases throughout the island, all with maybe a dozen dinos each.

Unfortunately, the plans for a massive "Main" metal base was put on hold due to the fact the location scouted is in the swamp biome region and construction has halted until that patch drops. So until then, several of the tribe has taken a short hiatus and only log in sporadically at best.

So for a couple of us we find it annoying that even if we wait a couple days to have to pack all our crap into a bin and "fast travel" to all the bases to check on the status of the dinos and collect fresh food for them. So this idea was something that I was curious about, because then I could pack all the troughs with a stack of kibble and ignore the other bases for more then a month.

And for those of you that would just state that I should just ignore the other bases and fellow tribe-members dinos and let them starve. Sorry, I'm not as much of a ♥♥♥♥ as you then. Some of them dinos have been around since release and some tribe-members have attachments to them. So, in the meantime unless it becomes a complete hassle I'll try and keep them alive until the biomes drop and I can consolidate all our dinos into one place.
