War paint issues..
So your paintbrushes can break now? Also the paint is too transparent and shows up as a very washed out color. Per-pixel my ass, you paint a rather large area and doing on the head of your dino worsens the effect.

Black paint on a white rex = a slightly dirtier looking white rex. A white rex should show color better than most of the colored dinos in the game, at least logically. We also tested this on the sail of the boat and black paint on it looks like a watermark.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it's implemented, but based on the dinos we're testing it on, it needs a LOT of work before it makes sense to spend your time trying to create intricate warpaint designs. The biggest issue could be covered by making the paint layer more opaque. The size of the brush, I dunno, I'm sure there's a reason for it.

Also, weird thing: You can paint the eyes of your dinos and the inside of their mouths.

Has anyone figured out how to mirror on both sides of the dino yet?

also the new colors seems to be broken, they dont do anything, i cant paint anything with the new dye colors

yeah the dino war paint is so damn transparent, theres really no point to its use right now AT ALL.

you can paint an entire dino with multiple colors and see almost no change in its appearance

I'm having the same problem. I can get at a few angles with right click drag, but the expected left click drag does not swiverl the dino. is there any way to swivel it?

Ctrl + left click then drag

Another weird issue, we painted the tail on one of my monkeys and now it's tail looks like one of those exploding cigars from the old Looney Tunes shorts. I'll get a screenshot soon.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=516443575 Exploded monkey tail syndrome is a serious issue! XD

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=516449008 The biggest issue of them all, since the painting is so wonky atm my gf decided to take the highest level tames we have and give them hooker makeup. ♥♥♥♥ you ARK team. Seriously.

Transparent? I can see the paint clear as day.

And zx, why are you insulting the ARK team? Your girlfriend is the one who gave them the stupid paintjob.

Did you guys consider that the paint might actually supposed to look a little lighter rather than be invasive eyesores?

Where did I insult them? I said ♥♥♥♥ you, ♥♥♥♥ you is not an insult, it's barely even a statement. At no point did I demean what they'd done, I just said it needs work.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=516459077 LOOK AT THIS ABOMINATION! This is a level 219 spino... it's not even hers, she's painting MY stuff because I tame 3x as much and end up with females of everything at high levels.

Also paint colors show up stronger on black, like full-saturation, so I imagine it has to do with the saturation of the dino in question and absolutely nothing to do with aesthetic choice. If I want a neon dino, I should be able to make a neon dino. If my tribe colors happen to be black and red, and I want to do war paint on my dinos in my colors, I shouldn't end up with eggshell and fuscia. You're not dying the dinos, you're painting them. War paint is thick and heavy so as not to be removed by... anything pretty much.

Thanks
Will have to give this a try tonight.

so far i have found that black, white and grey do not show up cary well, while the greens reds and blues tend to show up more though they tend to be altered considerably by the dinos own coloring..
zxlink Sep 11, 2015 @ 2:37pm
Yeah that seems to be the case, I was expecting more of a... grease paint style than dye-like warpaint.
Seth'cor Sep 11, 2015 @ 2:46pm
I had a few ideas I wanted to try but sadly they will not work so much with the way the painting dinos now works, but alas such is the way of things sometimes.

If you are able, the new navy, brick and olive paints look especially nice as warpaints

Has anyone tried yellow yet?
