im looking for a good taming scorpion build. i need a sweet number for melee damage, that won kill lv100+ dinos when i attempt to tame them. as for health, dont worry about it.
i want to get them unconscious asap.

As high melee damage % as possible (The poison scales with damage). Remember to get HP aswell if you plan on tanking the big dinos.

Typically scorpion have a set amount of torpor dmg they deal..... over time....
Because of that they are less suited taking on lvl 100+ dino's for taming because they have larger torpor numbers then lower level ones....

Typically, use crossbows with +... % dmg because unlike scorpions.. tranq arrows do MORE torpor dmg then scorpion stings.....
Since scorpion do an average of only 90 torpor over a period of ~10 seconds and Tranq arrows do 150 base torpor dmg it's easy to see which one is more effective......

As for shooting them... try and get a hight advantage like standing on a rock and / or kiting tactiks....

Scorpions may be good for lower, weaker dino's but 100+ dino's are typically tranqed by tranq arrows... not scorpions

Actually, torpor damage does stack.

Scorpions don't have a set amount of topor (UNLESS that was changed recently?), however I have also moved from scorpions to crossbow when I tranq. It's just much easier.

Small info from Ark @ gamepedia

Patch 178.x and above

The poison from one sting is applied over a duration of 10 seconds, so stinging in rapid succession will not knock out the target faster. The poison buffs do not stack. You need to refresh the sting every 10 seconds to deal the least amount of damage and maximum torpor.

Torpor and damage applied from a sting increases as melee damage % increases and is linear. At 100% melee a scorpion sting will deal 45 torpor over 10 seconds and 15 damage instantly [1].

An example of the increase in torpor and damage is as follows;

At 100% torpor is 45 and damage is 15
At 200% torpor is 90 and damage is 30
At 300% torpor is 135 and damage is 45
Working out your scorpions torpor and damage applied per sting is as simple as multiplying your melee damage % number by 0.45 for torpor and 0.15 for damage.

Scorpion A has 367.9% melee. Scorpion A will deal 367.9 x 0.45 = 165.6 torpor over 10 seconds and 367.9 x 0.15 = 55.2 damage instantly.
Testing has shown this is true on both conscious and unconscious animals.

versus the tranq arrow, same website:

A Tranquilizer Arrow does less damage than a Stone Arrow, but increases the target's Torpor. They can be used as ammo for the bow, crossbow and compound bow.
Upon hit, they instantly increase the target's torpor by an amount equal to 200% of the weapon damage and give an additional amount of torpor equal to 250% of the weapon damage over the course of the next 4 seconds.
They can usually be recovered by walking up to the area of impact, but will be recovered as Stone Arrows, the Narcotic being expended.

Wooden bow: Ranged damage 60 (fully charged) 26 (minimum charge)
Crossbow:Ranged damage 95 ( @100% )

Redforge you used the Stone arrow numbers not Tranq arrows that max out at 20 damage for basic bow.

According to the wiki the primitive bow has the best torpor to damage ratio (4.5 to 1) followed by the crossbow (3.75 to 1) then the Scorpion (3 to 1).
No idea about the Compound bow since theres no details for it.

This means for dodgey knockout the standard bow is best assuming you wait for the full time.

that is false. Tranq arrow always has 4.5/1 torpor/damage ratio no matter what weapon you use to shoot it.
Normal bow sometimes prefered for taming because you can make use of its non-fully drawn bow damage reduction mechanic to not accidentally kill target dino.

Think you need to read again... i posted the info of the tranq arrows AS it is posted....

Also this is posted on the CROSSBOW part of the site:
When loaded with Tranq Arrows, it can be used to knock other players or creatures unconscious. Since the torpor delivered by a Tranq Arrow scales with damage, it raises the target's torpor by a higher amount than an arrow shot from the Bow.

Try and read all the info from my source and not from a diffrent one unless it clearly states it's more recent... and thus more accurate ( provided it's a legitimate and confirmed source )

You need atleast 400% melee damage on your scorp to make it more effective than cross bow tranqs I guess. And you need to wait like twice as long then with bow between shots i think.

Anyone actually got a good video of a scorp tranqing to see how it's done?

The Scorpion is really good for taming aggressive dinos that can outrun you, such as Raptors, Carnos, T-Rexes etc. I say that because you can sit on it, without taking damage. To tranq a T-Rex however, you'll a LOT of HP and preferably a very good saddle.
Howlk Sep 10, 2015 @ 6:44am
Do it the other way around. First go for your aimed health pool (mine was 3.5k for a 120 tamed scorp) and put everything else in melee

I start running into issues nearly killing my targets once scorp melee % goes over 600, especially when knocking out weaker animals such as argents and pteras. I would recommend 2k+ health, and up to 600% melee...and then more health...
dgnr8duck Sep 10, 2015 @ 6:51am
Has anyone effectively tested the stacking of the poison dot? I know when a wild scorpion stings repeatedly the timer is extended by 10 seconds per sting. Is there any confirmation that this does or does not happen with tamed scorpions?
