Fjordur.. is there a newplayer friendly spawn?
All the 'easy' spawns seem to be utterly lethal so far for me, and not in a 'fun challenge' kind of way. IS there one where I might have a fighting chance?

Starting with a new survivor, First 'easy' spawn dropped me next to a group of high level Troodon. Spear v Lvl 70 Troodon is not a winner, and the only other way to travel involved freezing to death in the water.
Spawn 2 put me at a wreck with some nice loot in barrels. Until a lvl 10 Carno, Death pig and some wolves dropped in. No fibre here to make arrows, so the crossbow I found was no help.
Spawn 3 ...no dinos around, so I set off to explore. Froze to death as night is all super cold.
Spawn 4 ...Raptors.
Spawn 5 ....oh, the Troodon again.

So, no real opportunity to get established anywhere. Shortage of meat, ice cube cold every night, and every spawn I seem to get dinos that are way beyond 'easy' spawns. I can't run, can;t hide, and can't fight.

Do they assume that everyone is just hauling in with a kitted out survivor, dinos in tow, and every buff in the book, or is there a spawn where the beaches aren't kill zones?

Choose Vannaland West, then pick south spawn. Says medium difficulty, but i have never seen an alpha there. Most dangerous things are a therezino and some raptors. But the raptors spawn up the hills by the foot of the mountain.

Solution for the alpha raptor :SSWwink:

its because you need a ton of runes that drop from alphas to do the bosses, thats why i think theres so many alphas

Honestly feels like this map is no for noobs. Do not know what they did to the modded version as it was never this intense.
Now as for the cold OP everywhere on the map will have that. First levels come fast so boost fortitude up. By 14 fort with cloth armor you are just cold and can move on.
The map is definitely a higher challenge then any of the other default maps. If you are playing SP you could turn the dino spawn down a bit say from 1.0 down to .8 this could help you out some. However even for people like me with 3,000 hrs dying in the start is just how it goes. Get the sleeping bag down in a hurry.

You are correct. The map is not designed to be your first Ark experience clearly. I had to laugh at the easy spawns and felt for new people trying it out. Still with a little thought and luck you can make it work.

Yeah, this map would be rough for a totally new player. I brought in ascendant level gear made on my other maps, and tames that ranged from 250-300+ levels right out of the egg.

I rode around on a level 257 shadowmane for an hour, and was level 80+ from the kills I made while on it.

The alphas (as someone said above) are totally needed for the runestones. Once you start collecting those, you're going to be complaining that there are NOT enough alphas.

The biggest issue I've found so far, is missing tames. The Jotunheim realm is ridiculously cold (even colder then the cold biome in Genesis 1). The only way to be comfortable there is with a very high level otter, but I haven't seen an otter anywhere on the map so far. Once again, I brought in one from another map. But not sure how someone would be expected to handle Jotunheim if they can't find otters to tame.

You need to consume wyvern milk to get a buff that enables you to survive Jotunheim.

I'm not new to the game...got close to 2500 hours in it. But when I get a new map, I like to start a new player, and explore from the start. Valguero, Ragnarok .... this was fun. This map?

Seems clear what the deal is, and I guess I just won't be bothering much with it. Bringing in a levelled up player with a bunch of tames swings it way too far the other way. I was planning on playing with a small group....but after a few un-enjoyable goes.... nobody else wants to play the map ( there are a couple of less experienced players, and one good player) . It's just too unbalanced for what I wanted.

I spawned into one of the easy zones and faced an alpha raptor as soon as I could see clearly.

Acutally, Jotunheim got "nerfed hard" compared to the mod version. I had a base there, in the mod Jotunheim constantly had -80 celsius where you had to use tek canteen, wyvern milk, asc fur gear, otter and ride on a tame with fortitude to survive. But even then you could bring in a Para or Quetz with generator and enough air conditioners on it with you and easily survive.
Now, it "only" got minus 40-50 celsius (which is btw the same temperature as murder snow on Ragnarok), you just need 2-3 good fur pieces from loot drops or BP plus an Otter and you´re good to go, Also, bears for example give good insulation while riding on them.
I did some testing and the "sweet spot" on hypothermic insulation now is about 1000, which isn´t that hard to get by.

Edit: Oh and Otters should spawn in the redwoods in the north/east, if they aren´t do a dino wipe but they definitely do spawn.
