Solution for the alpha raptor
Now as for the cold OP everywhere on the map will have that. First levels come fast so boost fortitude up. By 14 fort with cloth armor you are just cold and can move on.
The map is definitely a higher challenge then any of the other default maps. If you are playing SP you could turn the dino spawn down a bit say from 1.0 down to .8 this could help you out some. However even for people like me with 3,000 hrs dying in the start is just how it goes. Get the sleeping bag down in a hurry.
You are correct. The map is not designed to be your first Ark experience clearly. I had to laugh at the easy spawns and felt for new people trying it out. Still with a little thought and luck you can make it work.
I rode around on a level 257 shadowmane for an hour, and was level 80+ from the kills I made while on it.
The alphas (as someone said above) are totally needed for the runestones. Once you start collecting those, you're going to be complaining that there are NOT enough alphas.
The biggest issue I've found so far, is missing tames. The Jotunheim realm is ridiculously cold (even colder then the cold biome in Genesis 1). The only way to be comfortable there is with a very high level otter, but I haven't seen an otter anywhere on the map so far. Once again, I brought in one from another map. But not sure how someone would be expected to handle Jotunheim if they can't find otters to tame.
You need to consume wyvern milk to get a buff that enables you to survive Jotunheim.
Seems clear what the deal is, and I guess I just won't be bothering much with it. Bringing in a levelled up player with a bunch of tames swings it way too far the other way. I was planning on playing with a small group....but after a few un-enjoyable goes.... nobody else wants to play the map ( there are a couple of less experienced players, and one good player) . It's just too unbalanced for what I wanted.
Acutally, Jotunheim got "nerfed hard" compared to the mod version. I had a base there, in the mod Jotunheim constantly had -80 celsius where you had to use tek canteen, wyvern milk, asc fur gear, otter and ride on a tame with fortitude to survive. But even then you could bring in a Para or Quetz with generator and enough air conditioners on it with you and easily survive.
Now, it "only" got minus 40-50 celsius (which is btw the same temperature as murder snow on Ragnarok), you just need 2-3 good fur pieces from loot drops or BP plus an Otter and you´re good to go, Also, bears for example give good insulation while riding on them.
I did some testing and the "sweet spot" on hypothermic insulation now is about 1000, which isn´t that hard to get by.
Edit: Oh and Otters should spawn in the redwoods in the north/east, if they aren´t do a dino wipe but they definitely do spawn.
