Go to the steam help menu, click system information and then copy paste all that here so we can see what steam detects for your rig and any potential discrepancies.
Start with that and lets see from there.
You're probably getting a BSOD because it's sucking your resources dry and there's possibly an instability somewhere, but yeah, I don't think it's very well optimized. If it requires a higher end computer to play, the sys reqs definitely don't reflect that. And the size on disk is just ridiculous and sorely misrepresented on the sys reqs.
My PC smokes the minimum sys reqs listed on Steam and it looks horrible on all graphics settings. I have other games in the genre around the same age that are far better in graphics and performance.
My first impression is that it's "one big pile of dinosaur ****", to coin a phrase. I can see why they're giving it away and I'm baffled as to why it's so popular. Had I bought it instead of taking advantage of the current promotion, I would have refunded it.
But I'm still patient...I plan to give it a little more play time and tweaking before I decide to delete it in case I'm missing something.
They've not bothered to state their system info as steam detects it and while that's very possible, we'll really not know until they show accurate info. It just also could very well be that they have hardware getting ready to go on the fritz too. I had that with ram years ago that was brand new and it bsod'd ark. Had to run a ram diagnostic to learn that was the source of the issue.
So it could be various things. But again we'll not know unless they decide to try to provide more info.
If his thread on VRising is partially accurate:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1604030/discussions/0/3383904768758923888/
He's using Win11 which is known to be an issue for Ark since it was built on/for win10 primarily. Other than that he's got a 3060 card so it can play ark just not perhaps in the highest fidelity settings without sacrificing some performance. But whether he's been keeping his driver for the card up to date or other details we dont know but the fact that he's also had problems recently in vrising does make for compelling evidence there are user end issues occurring.

i dont think its my gear tho, its not state of the art but its still better than most
and no other game gave me headache like this, not valhalla, not FF14, not GOW, ONLY ARK, well V rising did give me headache but they patched it and its works well. im still trying tho bcos my friends seems to enjoy the game very much
might tried on my pc when i got home next week but i doubt it would do any good
once i upgraded it was like a whole new game.
ARK is terribly optimised, always has been even back when it was new, i have older games that run and patch at 10x the speed that ARK does. but we do keep coming back....
Make sure you are running on the 3060 and not integrated gpu. Your system info does not detect nvidia driver installed at all. Its intel's own integrated graphics driver listed.
Second, its a laptop so check temps while running.
I've seen all this before with other game developers and their piles of crap that aren't properly optimized.
Plays well for some and not others even though the gear exceeds the posted system requirements.
Then when you post, people that the game plays well for come out of the woodwork to tell you your gear is faulty...same crap, different game.
Guess what kids, if you're supposed to be running a super computer to play a game, the recommended system requirements should reflect that which, yet again, falls to the developer. But that's neither here nor there.
Every time this sort of thing happened to me with a couple of different developers, it turned out to be the devs needing to fix the game. Now the games I've experienced this same scenario with in the past run well for most people proving that it wasn't player's gear in those situations. This looks like the same thing to me.
In my experience, it's far less likely a problem with your gear and far more likely a problem in the game, usually poor optimization.
Blame Valve for that, not Wildcard... if WC was able to update their system requirements along the way, I am sure they would have, but Steam/Valve wouldn't let them
So WC didn't get it right the first time and Valve won't let them update their information and that makes it Valves fault? I think not. Even in the unlikely event that Valve won't allow them to update, it doesn't fall to Valve that WC doesn't have their ducks in a row.
People should stop apologizing for developers that don't have their crap together.
Like I said, that's neither here nor there. Player's gear is always to blame, but not always the problem in these situations...less so than people care to admit.
