I kind of classify those as life-destroying game mechanics. They're things implemented by a game designer without really thinking of the consequences.
If you're playing on officials... well... sorry, nothing you can really do except waiting for in-game events where they offer boosted taming/mating/maturation rates.
If you're playing on your own servers, then just go _change_ the rates. That's all controllable.
I used to be hardline purist... thought changing the rates was "cheating"... But when the new Fjordur map launched, I ended up throwing in the towel when it came to desmodus breeding. They take over an hour to give live birth on normal settings. I often only have limited time a day to play ark, and realized I was spending all that time staring at a progress bar for a baby to be born. I could always go do something else, but I kept getting distracted and coming back to find dead babies. That's depressing (staring at dead baby corpses covered in blood reallllllllly depresses me, even though they're fake babies in a vidoe game).
So I changed the rates. I have the rates set so high (LOL) that the desmodus take about 2 minutes to breed and give birth. I get a baby desmo, and then I can go do other things that are actually more fun in the game. At the end of the day, ark is a video game I play for entertainment. It's not a second job.
Uninstalled.
Its for 1 player to a small tribe, which sounds like your situation.
If you play on an: official sever: They aren't considered for playing alone. Official is the most challenge you can get in Ark. Because:
- no mods allowed
- most work-benches have relative small inventories
- long taming- breeding- and maturation-times
- stats of dinos are for group-play
- annoying building of structures, since you aren't allowed any mods. (S+ and/or SS have a lot of QoL improvments, including permantent pickup for all structures. On official this is only 30 seconds, and not even for all...)
But I wouldn't give up so fast.
Play Single player!
- you have admin-commands on your desposal.
- you can install any mod you want
- you can set the most important settings without configuring any inis, since they show up before you actuall start the game, including leveling flyer-speeds and allowing auto-turrets on all platforms!
- single player-settings! (They boost taming- breeding- and maturation-times significantly. And can even get more boosts by changing the other options before you launch the game.)
Changing maps can get a bit annoying in comparison to server-clusters... but it's still doable. The hardest time is the first spawn on a new map. But you also can get stored obelisk-stuff (in the "arke-dcata"-folder) in drops, so you don't have to reach an obelisk.
The only "disadvantage" is, that you must actually run the game, to get things done. If you don't have the game running, its offline!, so no passive crafting of metal-ingots or growing of crops. But with SP-Settings, at least the latter is also much faster than normal, espeicially, if you grow them in a greenhouse (made of greenhouse-structures or adope.)
And if you want to play with friends, you can start your SP-game as a non-dedicated session. This comes at a cost, however:
- You must be within a certain range of each other
- you are the host, e. g. if you have a DC, all other also have one.
- I'm not sure, but non-ded-sessions might not be able to get password-protected.
