Can you place an elevator platform on pillars+ceilings?

I'm building a sort of bridge, and since the ground isn't flat, I'm using pillars and ceilings instead of foundation. Now I got to the point where I wanna place an elevator, and it doesn't let me place the elevator platform because it needs foundation support. Do elevator platforms have to be placed on foundations?

Elevator platforms have to snap to the elevator tracks, you have to build them first.

Also pillars count as foundations. A roof piece does not, nor do fence walls.
