Help GPU and Temp insanely high
Hello, so I really like playing this game however I have been having trouble because at a certain point my PC shuts down and restarts itself. I later found this is due to high GPU and Temp. I have a screen shot of my stats.
Note: All sharp dips down in GPU% was where I exited the game itself in order to save progress before loading back into the game.

The first bit you notice is about mid-range GPU usage: here I am walking with my dinos fallowing me back to base. However it starts to go up as I approach other wild, but friendly dinos.

It eventually spikes up and hits 99-100% GPU usage in the next section: This is where I near a lvl 4 Giga who is on the other side of the river, I dont interact with it, I simply walk my dinos by at a very safe distance. But even that takes an extreme amount of GPU.

Now it goes down to mid- way. Here im idling at the loading screen before clicking back into the game. Im just looking at the screen and not asking anything of the game and im at 50% GPU, for doing nothing except looking at the screen!!

Lastly I save again and load back into the game and continue to walk through a field with wild friendly dinos again, but the GPU usage is still high although not maxed out like with the giga.

Throughout all this im keeping track of my core temp of my graphics card. the average is 78 C to 82 C (for those that dont know Celsius its over 100 degrees Fahrenheit). You can see my Graphics card in the middle of the program (Radeon Vega Frontier Edition) and my latest driver version is right under that (Adrenalin 2020 21.3.2)

I have a fan that sucks air out of the case as opposed to the fans that try to blow the hot air out. I even tried to take off the maintenance cover to allow for more hot air to escape, but that keeps the temp the same and im running a small desk fan which I have blowing into the maintenance area to possibly help further reduce the heat that sits inside the cover, but to no avail! I dont want to run a liquid cooling system and I already have good fans sucking air out.

I'm playing Ark: Survival Evolved, Direct X-10 low graphics version, and i'm playing single player Ragnarok. Does anyone have any additional ideas I may not have tried?? Or maybe you know why this is happening because my graphics card should be able to handle this game on normal and it can barely function or reduced graphics! there has to be something wrong any suggestions??!!???

Sigh** and now I cant get my Snip to paste in this forum, please share on how to do that so my info can be analyzed.

Srsly the best thing to do would be to buy coolers if you don't already have any in your pc, if it's a laptop i have no idea, laptops tend to get hot

Ark is yet another game that doesn't have any way to limit the frame rate. so what happens is the game will run your card as hard as it can no matter what settings you pick. You need to find a way to limit the frames from your video card's settings if possible. You've mentioned Radeon so that's an AMD card so I'd look in that direction for something similar to what Nvidia's profiles have, which has an option to force vsync or frame limiting on games like these that don't have it built into the settings you can adjust.

False. t.max fps <number> limits the framerate.

Kay, let me rephrase then "Ark is yet another game that doesn't have any INTUITIVE/PERMANENT way to limit the frame rate." ;) Obscure console commands you have to enter every time you launch the game is hardly ideal.

I use a 15,000 BTU window air conditioner to cool my two computers.

Download MSI Afterburner and set the max temp.
Honestly, this game has almost no optimization to keep it from being a resource hog.

Yes, it is a PC that I helped build so no laptop. BumpInTheNight, thanks for the suggestion about the AMD graphics reduction rate/limit. I will look closer into that. Do you think that limiting the FPS will help reduce GPU and Temp? The temp is what eventually shuts down my computer so thats the problem I really need to fix, unless it happens to be directly related to GPU usage (which im not sure of).

I have MSI Afterburner, that what I took a picture of but i cant figure out how to place it in this thread for some reason.

Look up on YouTube for something like "Ark fastest fps boost". At the beginning of the video he shows you few launch commands, which you paste to the Ark properties on Steam. I had same problem with gpu usage and this helped me.

I will write it here once i get home.

I would think it would. If you're running at, say, 60fps capped vs 300fps uncapped, that's putting way less stress on your GPU and CPU.
Also, 82c is a little warm, but nothing to be worried about. If your PC is shutting itself down \ restarting, that could very well be your CPU (processor) overheating. Try cleaning off your CPU's heatsink, or if you can, reapply thermal paste.

People on here say the launch commands no longer work although I know for a fact the turn off events one works because I still use it.

I had extreme gpu usage as well, looked up couple launch options and i went with 2070 rtx from 95% usage to 45%, and the game looks almost the same, perfect for me

Also i forgot to mention that i use msi afterburner to lower my gpu power even more and it all works great.

Launch options i am using: -sm4 -d3d10 -high -nomansky -full -noaafonts -PREFERREDPROCESSOR 4

I came to say 82c is not that bad. Its not ideal and I do not let my card get that hot but, its not bad. It is probably your CPU overheating that is shutting down your pc. Do you have an aftermarket cooler? What cpu do you have?

Edit: So I have been flying around gen2 with everything maxxed out at 90fps for 30min and my cpu has never gone past 70. That is really high for my cpu but still not worrying. My gpu never went past 63. I think its something with your system mate. I am leaning towards your cpu cooler.
