I'm pretty sure that the guy was just asking questions when he said "Surely this is a troll thread.". I mean, a question mark wouldn't have hurt, but it's clearly a question nonetheless. Don't you think that maybe the thread title "Velociraptors misrepresented", is something of a bold statement rather than a question? Can you imagine that rather a lot of smartasses turn up and ask similar questions?
Isn't this "I am just asking questions and so am immune to criticism" business fun?
Utahraptor=genus name
U.prime=arks species
It is a sub-species. Not a "real" sub-species, but still a sub-species. Here is a small part of what they say about it:
"Utahraptor Prime is an extremely aggressive sub-species of Utahraptor found on the island. It tends to travel in small hunting packs, attacking smaller prey with its sharp teeth or enlarged foreclaws."
The Dilophosaur is nowhere near realistic. It's simply a copy of what the Jurassic Park movie had. Real Dilophosaurs were much larger, and have not been shown to have had a frill.
But so long as you leave this thread knowing that, ignoring the fact that these dinosaurs were given fake scientific names, the raptors in game are Utahraptors and not Velociraptors then you're good. Just read the full provided name of the dinosaur next time, instead of assuming.
Utahraptor is not a fake scientific name. Maybe you should look up and read more, before trying to explain things.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utahraptor
"Utahraptor (meaning "Utah's plunderer"[1]) is a genus of theropod dinosaurs. It contains a single species, Utahraptor ostrommaysorum, which is the largest known member of the family Dromaeosauridae. Fossil specimens date to the upper Barremian stage of the early Cretaceous period (in rock strata dated to 126 ± 2.5 million years ago)."
wow you really should work on reading the whole post before responding on a tangent. granted a comma or 'and' was missing but still. we are all fully aware that the Utahraptor was a real thing, but all of the "scientific names" are fictional because all of the creatures in ark are at best made up versions about as close to IRL as the average movie "based on a true story" is or a "ripped from the headlines" Law and order episode.
There is Utahraptor Prime in the game, which is different creature than Utahraptor ostrommaysorum, which gives the Devs freedom of changing it how they wish, as it simply is a made up animal.
Lol! You actually used the Dilophosaur as a definition of a dino that looks like it's real life counterpart! Bravo sir, bravo. With that, any pretence you had of schooling anyone in paleontology just went right out the window!
My actual post has a comma. For some reason he felt the need to edit the quote...
Just based on that I'm pretty sure this guy is a troll. If he wasn't he would have simply accepted the correction and moved on with his life.
