Fastest way to gain XP is via a group narcotic crafting party with tribe members. The more the merrier. There is not a faster way to level up an animal. Fighting does not give more XP than this method.
This works via the shared XP. Animals get shared XP but not XP from you crafting narcotic directly.
Have a decent number of MPs made for crafting the narcotic. Load them all up and have each member fo the group start their share.
Go sit on the animal you ant to level.
Enjoy. The more MPs making narcotic and the more people in the party making that narcotic the better it will be.
Hunt alpha with a pack of para under lvl 10?? who will crazy enought to lose all his tamed dino at once :3
The key to getting high level dinosaurs is knocking out ones that are lv100+ and feeding them kibble to maximise their amount of bonus levels gained. Raw prime will do if you're short on eggs.
Once you tame a dinosaur it can only gain 50 more levels from its original level once tamed. So say for example you knocked out a lv110 trex and fed it kibble. It might finish out around lv160. Then it can potentially reach lv210 through leveling.
Best way to level a good Dino is by hunting alphas or any large dinosaurs. Alpha Trex and Gigas are powerful so don't tackle those until it been leveled up abit first
Maybe use the console to cheat a saddle in and level it up faster by riding it and killing things.
Fighting alpha does give you more xp then crafting narcotics, plus you need a saddle first to sit on your dino for level it up so for this guy its not going to work
But parasaurs are just meat fodder really and worthless otherwise.
Start dino imo for most to tame that is a better jack of all trades is a trike. The knockback it does on its hits allows you to kill (though takes a while) a wide variety of dinos, it can be a pack mule, good narco and other berries collector and a so so thatch collector... once you're high enough to get the saddle that is. After that shoot for a few pteradons so that you can fly around collecting stuff from drop beacons and killing some things for meat and hide.
In the interim time build your base(so you gain exp). Eventually shoot for a doed for stone harvesting, anky for metal harvesting and a beaver for wood harvesting and a frog for paste/chitin harvesting(via killing bugs). Technically you can skip the frog if you can have a good constant havestable source of chitin and keratin from kills of bugs and scorps or the like but that's up to you. Eventually you'll want to go for an argentavis and then a quetz and if you want to go ocean related then shark to start and then pleisi or mosa.
Once you have the better things like argents you can kill eventually alphas and other dinos to level it or similar. A spino is probably overall better than a rex as well for that size category since they're good swimmers and have a better aoe.
At least those are the routes I take when leveling on vanila or single player unmodded or settings not easier wise.
