Catapult analysis
This is really a fun weapon. Quite expensive to build, but build on a platform it beats the Ballista easily.
Damage vs stone is 700 (Ballista 880) more vs wood/thatch. Ammo cost ist nice, just 3 ingots and some stones. The Ballista ammo is much more expensive for just a little bit more damage.

The catpult is quite precise for distances around 100 meters. For larger distances things become more "try on error".. and as former officer and artillery forward observer i know about what i talk xd

The damage vs dinos is, as for ALL ARK weapons, just a joke. 6 shots to kill a wild pig...ROFL, this wont stop the gamebreaking Giganoto bug dino.

Absolute must-have weapon, makes the Ballista obsolete.

Except that you can reuse most of the ballista ammo

I didn't know the ballista was even relevant anymore.

Hmm well i prefered the Ballista as door opener to the pike, but Catapult is much cooler.

so you better build a ton of arrows to shoot them at the enemy that requires tons of materials you need to farm everywhere instead of collecting some stones from the beach, getting 6 metal ore for 3 ingots and get a boulder that nearly deals the same damage?

It still isn't, thanks to Primitive players.

Anyways, the Catapult is meant as an artillery piece. Supposed to shoot ♥♥♥♥ over ♥♥♥♥ to hit ♥♥♥♥ on the other side of ♥♥♥♥. Shoots in an arc.

The Ballista is meant as a direct fire weapon. Shoots straight ahead.

It could definitely do less damage and still be viable.

Also other types of ammo, like people.

No, i didnt said that. I said you can get back most of your ballista ammo which is make it a good choice. I was not comparing their overall power. I still have to make a catapult, and try it. After that i can answer this question. I learned the ballista engram but didn't found the engram for the ammo. Is it missing on primitive?

Oh and if you check the description of the ballista, it says that it is good also against large dinos. Which isn't atm, but who knows, maybe the ballista will be redesigned against dinos in the future.

Haha i thought the same, but the ammo ist produced inside of the catapult, what is another advantage too. Raided a stone raft, stole the ingots and stones from some poor noob who had no idea about warship design and had directly ammo for the next raft.

Har ! Har ! Pirates united, thanks to the Giganoto game bug dino who has driven us from the island.

I'm really very tired of all the new weapons and defenses being completely useless in PvE. There's really no reason for it and it's silly that "PvE Tech" basically peaked with the crossbow.

But with a team of 2, fire ballista, pick up bolts, after every shot, reload repeat with the one that breaks after wall destruction. Just watch the wall health, rinse and repeat. Ballista>Catapult. In the long run, less metal wastage per shot when recovered compared to possible miss rates with cata and loss of amunition on contact.
