Fan Dossier: Deinocheirus
Common Name: Deinocheirus
Species: Deinocheirus mimicus
Time: Cretaceous
Diet: Omnivore
Temperament: Skittish

Wild: Deinocheirus is an oddity, plain and simple. It seems to be some chimaera of many different birds including spoonbills, emus, peacocks, and albatrosses. Unlike its known counterpart, however, it bears a crest on its head like that of a Pteranodon. Despite having a pseudo-wingspan many times a man's height, it cannot fly; instead, it is covered with the most magnificent display of feathers I have seen on any dinosaur. Its plumage could be likened to a parrot or macaw made all the more amazing by its size. The Deinocheirus is just a hair shorter than a T. dominum and a few feet taller. By all evolutionary standards, creatures this large should not have such a display of color, but after all, this is the Ark: a strange place where the rules of nature are of no authority. In addition, the Deinocheirus can perfectly mimic the sound of nearly any creature on the island. I suppose the tribe could have some uses for this creature, despite it (literally) being a big chicken.

Domesticated: I've asked our allies on the utility of a Deinocheirus and all of them have agreed on its role as a decoration. While it would be nice to have the god Quetzacoatl feasting in our fields, I also found that it could make a fantastic watchdog. Its plumage can frighten off smaller critters while its vocal mimicry can deter looters and rival tribes. And after careful examination of a corpse, the Deinocheirus somehow secretes a toxin that has the same effect as a bowl of Narcotics. However, this material can only be harvested from its...err..."dirthole" while alive, so it would reasonably be upset if any attempts were made to gather the toxin. It can be freely gathered, though, from all organs upon its death. The Deinocheirus, on the flipside, makes for a poor war mount. It is slow, fairly unarmored, and will run at the first sight of danger without proper discipline. Its claws are better suited for digging up roots and rodents, which is why some farmers will use Deinocheirus as a fancy fruit-harvester. Also, upon its death, the feathers can be collected for use in a light armor that can frighten animals and lower the morale of opponents. Truly, an amazing creature.

Survivor's Notes: Hmm...not sure about this one haha. It's definitely not going to be the first one charging into a battle, but it's almost as if it's better dead than alive. Oh well. I had some lazy fun making this creature as sort of a trippy Big Bird. With all its cool abilities, it would be interesting to see what survivors would do with it (besides killing it which will probably be 90% of the time XD). Anyway, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed today's dossier! As always, I accept intelligent, constructive criticism and feedback and I would love to hear your guys' suggestions too. Peace out!

Lmao I wish that this could be the case for all Ark animals...but I think the devs would rather have the modders take care of that. I played that game all the time back in the day haha.

It'd be so rad to make like Ankylo Plate Armor, or a Quetzal Membrane wingsuit, or a sword lined with Megalodon teeth, or a longsword made from Giganotosaurus teeth, or armor made from Bronto Vertebrae

+100000 the devs need to see this. Flak armor has been getting redundant.

Personally, I like my dossier more, but I will be happy just if this animal makes it into the game. +1

Could you link me to it? I want to see how you structured your Deinocheirus. However, I believe mine will be the more ridiculous of the two anyway :P
