Giganotosaurus, there is an easy way to tame it
This post is about the torpor while it unconscious as that is really the only difficult part about taming it. It is not about knocking it out

Update: The solution is quoted at the bottom of this post

So I went out with my alt last night and tamed two Giganotosaurus with ease. I had read so much about them since release I was expecting it to be difficult, much to my disappointment the opposite was true.

If you are using thousands of narcotics (which most posts claim to be doing) then YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG and do not understand game mechanics with regards to torpor. I'll update in an hour or two with the answer if no one gets it.

What I did:
Edit: Removed all of this since people seem to keep getting caught up in details that are not relevant.

So the giganoto loses thousands of torpor a minute, making the replenishment of that amount impossible, outside of shooting it repeatedly (which i would not advise doing personally). But only if that loss was static/permanent.

However, torpor loss is not consistent. When torpor is increasing, all torpor loss is halted entirely. Therefore to keep a giganoto unconscious you need to keep its torpor rising almost permanently. Such a feat would cost ungodly amounts of narcotics. However, narcotics and narcoberries have the same or similar application time I believe, meaning in this situation they are identical in functionality. I spent roughly 5 minutes farming berries on a bront, and had a few thousand leftover after i was done. Also, you can spam a few hundred berries into it and leave it for a bit, so long as it isn't close to reaching max torpor

Would it be let it almost wake up and burn all the narcotics at once so it takes an hour to raise it's torpor before it starts falling agakn@

I know. If you give it narcotics, it doesnt lose narcotics. However, as for the knockout, we did an easier solution (Me and two tribemates) We crafted up some narco tripwires, and nearly knocked a level 73 out with a couple of them, then finished with tranq ammo. Giving it a stack of narcotics negates most of torpor lose, and we managed to tame in roughly an hour (Pure prime) [Server does have a tame boost]

If you need an alt acc it's not solo.

And the main question here is: official server settings or unofficial?

THey still are dangerous. Level 200 rex ran pass one without seeing, hit it, started to chase me, we didnt escape intime (My tribemate managed to escape by zigzagging) It bit my rexes tail and it just died before we could escape. My issue is the imbalance with these fellas, wild and tamed. I want a fair fight, not like dodorex or a wild one of these murdering my own.

15 narc arrows to knock out is no way on official.

um. if you dont have the necesary ammount of narcotics you could always use tranq arrows. (although it will effect taming effectiveness it is MUCH cheaper as the torpor gain per narcotic is MUCH higher rate this way)

and blaze.. sometimes its better to fight it than run from it.. you likely would have killed it before it killed you had you stayed and chomped. they are tough. but against a tamed mounted 200+rex.. would have been much better odds.

Just to point out, this would require a single arrow to deliver 2k torpor, which even with a 350% crossbow (that would be very rare to find, to say the least) is completely impossible (edit: and just to add, the level 104 we knocked out had 350k torpor)

One way to save narcotics is to use narcoberries in a 5s interval, while the torpor increasing effect of the berries (or also narcotics) is active the torpor drop is stopped. But obviously there are more fun things to do than babysitting a dino and press remote use every 5s, especially if you are alone and/or don't have the kibbles and have to farm prime.

Using a second account. Not solo
Ascendant crossbow. Not official/cheat/private server

Using narc's to starve it baby sitting it and feeding it a few narcs at a time to maintain topor without using tons of narcs. Now baby sit a high level and see how much longer it takes. things will attack you while your back is turned for such a long time. and it's better to use a quetz.

using legit gear it takes several hundred narc arrows to down a high level too with a couple journey man crossbows.

I have a heavy boosted private server, tame timers are short as hell, breeding is fast and easy so on and so forth, a level 42 that was on my server took me 275 narcotics to keep out and I kept letting it get low, it took about 400 tranq arrows (mind you I wasn't shooting it in the face and it was with a primitive crossbow), and it took 10 Quetzal Kibble and about 45 minutes to tame. I have tame timer boosted up all the way. So there is NO way that your stuff is accurate for a normal server. I even recorded my tame so I got my own proof.

Lol guess so. But the fact that the server admin spawned a dodo rex and murdered it in five seconds i kinda...different

You let it almost wake up then feed it a bunch of narcotics you will have 50+ of time to gather the prime/chill or whatever

Sounds very legit .... id say your short about 22.5K torpor on the 30k one to get the knock out, must be quite the server tweaks you got going there hû.
