hyper means heat
right now unless you are using quetz eggs to hatch the best bet is to make a ring of eitehr standing torches or campfires in a room in your house, turn off or on as needed, if its to hot and all the campfires are off, pick up the egg for a bit, then place it down later, this will not effect the eggs health if its in your inventory, or incubation speed
If you press H the temperature displayed will always be the same.
Insulation on the other hand will vary (being close to a fire grant hypothermal insulation, being close to AC grants hypertermal insulation AND hypothermal) and is displayed when you open your inventory.
Insulation in general will act as a "buffer" to the allowed temperature, even if the temperature itself is unchanged.
Example:
A quetzal egg (hatching temp 6 degress C) can be hatched in a tropical biome (around 25 degrees) if 6 AC units are close to it (providing 6000 hyper/hypo thermal insulation).
