Best Launch Parameters? :D
I searched discussions but I kept getting different answers, and im not sure what is the best. What would you guys say is the best launch parameters to set to get the most fps boost? I can play fine on high, but I tend to lag in my base a bit, and any extra fps helps. Thanks! :)

I am using -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -d3d10 -nomansky, however I still lag pretty bad around my base and I think this is just due to the unoptimization issues. I can sit at 40-70 pretty easily outside my base but anywere near it and I'm at 30 or lower no matter what I end up doing.

Ok thanks! Just copy this exactly and put it in?

-USEALLAVAILABLECORES -d3d10 -nomansky

Or should I space it out a little differently?

"-sm4 -d3d10" are the main two, but this question really has to do with the hardware your computer is running. Different machines / video cards run DirectX and Shading slightly differently. Try them, see if you get better fps.

I use "-nomansky" and "-USEALLAVAILABLECORES" also, but not sure how much of a difference (if at all) it does. Probably more useful if running a server or playing single player, but I use it with no ill effects.

Nope just like that should be it. I am not 100% sure if there's something better to use as I was in the same boat as you and just went with those and they seemed to help me out. And as Eclipsys said I would try them all out, with some different combinations and see what works best for you.

Ah I see, Thank you guys for the help. I will go ahead and try all of these exactly as you put them, but just incase my hardware does make a difference ill put it below

CPU: Amd FX 6300 6core @ 3.5ghz
GPU: Nvidia Gtx 970 4gb
RAM: 8gb
Operating system is on a ssd

I am using the same video card and the settings I posted work pretty well for me, my cpu however is a bit more powerful than yours, and I have 16Gigs of ram. Honestly with just 8gigs you may want to run the game in low memory mode as well, i have had this game use upwards of 9gigs of ram before so that could be causing you some issues as well.

Yeah i agree. well luckily for me (kinda) one of my psus exploded so I'm getting a newegg credit, gonna use that to upgrade the ram :D I think my cpu is okay though, it doesn't ever seem to max it out

It was a defect btw xp

They suggest you use all of the parameters for best results:
-USEALLAVAILIBLECORES
-sm4 (shader model 4; really important one)
-d3d10
-nomansky

Yeah your cpu should be fine, but with alpha games you never know. With so many games now recommending 8Gigs of ram upgrading to 16 would be a good idea. Also helps out if you have 20+ tabs open in chrome or firefox and don't want to close them everytime you play a game.

Are these parameters supposed to make gameplay look like a potato? I have it set to high but it looks like low ingame
Archimodes Nov 6, 2015 @ 12:50pm
Since this most recent patch on Ultra I'm not dipping below 30fps. Typically hover around 40ish. This is with 2K resolution. I'm rocking a similar video card (actually 2 but that means literally nothing in Ark).

I use -SM4 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES

The thing that drives me crazy is if i change my settings in-game, it drops to like 11FPS. I can go from 30-60 FPS on Ultra to 11FPS on low. I have to restart the game for it to give me the actual FPS. This is only since patch V222.

EDIT:

No it doesn't look like a potato (lol), the settings I use make it look absolutely beautiful, but I can't see the moon. Small price to pay, imo.

They should not make the game look that much worse, however they will lower the quality a little bit. I run my game with everything on High and it looks fine to me, perhaps one of your settings is not saving?

Only the "-nomansky" should produce any kind of visual downgrade... and that just affects the skybox. They rest are just using different more optimized software options instead of newer stuff.
