Weight on Riot Shield seems kinda unbalanced
I get why it's supposed to have high weight. It's a cost to carrying one around with you. But compared to the other shields and costs of them, it seems like the Riot Shield's weight is to high for what it's worth.

Wooden is 15, a Riot is double that (30) and Metal is triple that. (45, ouch) The material cost for metal is fairly high, and the material cost for Riot shield is crazy high. Assuming it costs half the materials to repair a broken shield, each hit you take with a metal shield costs a bit, but each hit you take with a Riot shield costs you a lot...
Is the super high cost to craft and even use a riot shield worth a mere 15 weight reduction?

Also, in real life being lightweight is one of the major perks of a Riot Shield. You could even say it's one of its defining features.

Anyone else think a weight change for the Riot Shield seems reasonable?

Bump.
I know it isn't the most interesting or most dire issue of this recent patch (such as Godmode Gigantosaurus, continued behemoth gate controversy, and Rafts everywhere hitting puberty), but it still deserves attention.
Hoping it isn't so overshadowed by the major issues that it isn't even looked at.

The numbers you posted seem very appropriate. Many of us have expected we will see the weight of our armor increase later in developement considering fur weight.

Probably why your not seeing any support for your thread.

Edit, it is light weight. Lighter than metal.

yea the ark devs are weird with weights and material costs jsut look at teh trophy mount... it is smaller than a wooden wall but it costs 200 wood and a ton of cementing paste... all of the material costs and weights throw any semblance of realism right out the window hehehe... I can make a giant fabricator for liek 35 metal ingots but a longneck rifle takes 95 metal ingots... its not even like you are crafting stuff its more liek you are paying the gods of grind for the abilty to use an item for a short time before you have to pay them more tribute...

It is lighter than metal, but what I'm arguing is its not light enough to be worth it's cost when compared to metal.

Also, I'm aware that they plan to add weight to armor and this is one of the reasons I feel the weight here is too high. Even if it's manageable now, when they add armor weight it's going to be ridiculous.

Edit, it is not light weight. Certainly not enough lighter than metal to be worth the cost.

You forget the fact that making certain items as mentioned above may take more resources due to its higher quality necessary for its propoer functioning. its easier to make a fabricator + table rail and drill, than a rifle that wont backfire in your face. same goes for trophy wall mount. Its fashion so it has to cost. you dont make furniture from ANY wood, so to picturize (wordcrafting ^^) that the price is fairly high.

Its amazing when kids try to complain about lack of realism and often come up with more irrational ideas.

are you calling me a kid IM 26 anyways... ive done carpentry before Ive built sheds before ive seen people turn a tree into planks useing old world methods... one good tree goes a long way in real life... its the same with teh boulders in teh game one large boulder isnt even enough to make one of teh paper thin postage stamp blocks... I know why they do it but its just silly instead of making things cost way more than they should have other materials have high quality wod for furnitures have several types of metals each with different use... my uncle is a gun smith and it doenst take anywhere near that amount of metal to make a gun it takes high purity steel for the barrel and deifferent metals for the reciever trigger mechanisms... this game jsut puts a grind wall in front of higher tiered items its like with the dinos everythign just increases in grind time exponentially its a somewhat lazy game mechanic....

but in this game every wood is equal so if you cant find better one you will go find more of it
Happy days

i agree on the giganatosaurus.. and im not 100% sure but i think there is also a bug with it meaning it returns a stupid amount of XP on kills.. my quetz went from 150ish to 190 in such a short time and only killing maybe 4 or 5 alphas.. all but one were raptors.. other was carno

Oh god please this isn't a Giganto thread.. Let's please not turn it into one, there are already more than enough of those lol...

To add back to the original topic though, I understand things being unrealistic for the sake of gameplay completely.
But the riot shield weighing twice as one often does in real life doesn't make much sense for gameplay, especially when it's supposed to be the top-tier shield.
(Assuming weight is by pounds, as it seems what everything else but structures is based on in-game)
