Is it worth taming a Dilophosaurus?
I'm a newbie at level 12 and i keep getting killed by Titanomyrma or Titanoboa when i go exploring, will taming a Dilophosaurus help protect me from those creatures? or if not what would? any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Spears/bow will help you :)
It would help. If it doesn't kill it, it will distract it, allowing you to get away.

When I was your level, I had several of those. It made obtaining hide and meat easier, as well as protecting me against other creatures.

Dinos are your friends! If you tame them. :p

Dilos are good for defense, upgrade their health and melee, If you want a dino to go with you on adventures, get a raptor

:)

Dilos are good at early levels, more useful against players though

Then yes, tame some dilos. They'll protect you. Don't get one, get multiples for better chance of survival. Don't get cocky with them though.

Turn up your mouse sensitivity fam

Also Dilos are great starting companions. They're also the only dino with a ranged attack.

First off if the post you said about arthritus is real, sorry to hear that bro seriously.
And to answer your topic, yes dilos are like the guard dogs of the game, they are like little armymen waiting for a command XD. If you get the chance, stock narcoberries, mejoberries, and a sling with 100 rocks to tame a trike cause they make life easier when your a low level :)

Just get 5 and let them guard you until you get a trike ;)

Don't forget in PVP scenarios, they blind fighters on foot for 10 seconds

Thanks for the advise, i'll start taming some asap.

I agree here I always tended to have a small army of dilos (though that will probably change when they introduce compys into the game) with me when I was hunting on foot or protecting my base.

It is best to kill a bunch of dodos or if you can manage a parasaur or two before attempting though to have enough meat on hand to tame some (along with either narcoberries or nacros in general),

Also try to approach from behind or from the side never the front though if by the front you have about a few seconds delay to sidestep before they shoot their poison out at you. You can use them to help till you can get a raptor but once you do get a raptor best to leave them at the base as they can't keep up with a raptor unless you put a lot of points into their speed which is really a waste as it is best to put points into health or melee with them.

I do have arthritus but its only mild at the moment and i hope it stay that way. I'm only playing single player at the moment until i get used to the game, and I'm exploring to find a good place to build my base. When i find that i think I'll try taming a trike.

Early stages are always hard, but always memorable too so first thing I want to say is don't give up :)
Some tips that might make your life easier are;
  • Stay at beach areas, even build your first base there, (make sure there are no dangereous Dino spawns around, sometimes Spinos can spawn just next to you - and ant's might give you trouble as well but much less than in-lands)
  • Do not go in-lands much especially mountains and deep swamp, unless you feel like you're ready (Having a fast mount like a Raptor - or a Ptero to fly by to explore around is a good start at exploring)
  • Dilo's won't protect you much, to be more specific it won't be an effective way to protect you, there are much more efficient ways later on, but their eggs are surely important. Dilo Egg Kibbles will let you tame high level Ankylo (great for Metal Collecting later on) and Doedicurus (great for Stone Collecting) later in the game.
  • Try to level up quick. At level 15 a Raptor will get you lots of meat therefore spoilt meat + at Level 20 Trike will let you farm lots of Narcoberries. Combining Spoilt Meat + Narcoberries = Narcotics, if you do them in large amounts it will help early level ups a lot, and Narcotics are aaaalways useful no matter what stage of game you are. (Crop Plots with Narcoberries early on will make life much easier too)
  • Later on Mammoth for massive Wood Gathering + Doedicurus for Stone Gathering + Ankylo for Metal gathering will get your base and outer walls through the phases of Tech and Protection.
  • 3-4+ High Walls around your base are always useful. Alpha Dinos can and might wreck thatch/wood easily but after stone it will be much more safer. (Well it is very rare on beach areas but if there is somehow an Alpha spawn nearby it is probably best to move to another location)

Thanks for those tips, i'd love to tame a raptor but i haven't seen any near my little house in the southeast corner of the map. I've been killed by a few exploring a bit further northwest. But to be honest i don't think i have the skill yet to knock one out. I built my fist house on the beach but a carno came and eat it, lol. I've now moved to a cliff overlooking the beach, it seems much safer up here.
