Get to the Wiki And Look it Up yourself. You literally Need to Google 2 words (giganotosaurus ark) And Click on the First result. Its Quite easy to tame a giga

You're welcome. Now you can get your answer in 2 seconds because lvl 50 is Even Listed there + amount of meat And narcotics it requires

but the amount shown is that specified to tranq him with headshots or bodyshots? will i need fewer when hitting him only to the head?

Yes you will Need Few when you aim for the Head. Still better bring a Few more since the torpor can be a bit higher on specific Dinos. A better Rifle also Deals more torpor

Or you could use a taming calculator to see the amounts per level: http://www.survive-ark.com/taming-calculator/

Also, any damage bonuses your weapon has will reduce the number of tranqs needed. So, you should need less.

Make sure your weapons are full repeaired before going against a giga, and carry a spare.

Also, for a giga, we usually don't do the 5 second rule; just shoot them as fast as you can.

yeah understandable. a giga has way too much health. no 5 seconds rule needed :steamhappy:

Also, as soon as it is down, get to it fast and start to narc it, as their topor drops way fast.

The good thing is, after you have force it to take some narcotics, the drop stops. But, as soon as they hit max topor, the drop starts again.

I usually let it drop a bit, which does not take long, and then feed it a bunch; however, I believe overfeeding will not help you.

And never leave the Giga when it is close to max topor, as you will end up with a mad giga short there after.

The 5 second rule has nothing to do with the health of a dino. It has to do with the torp gain of the tranquil items are they hit a dino they have 5-7 seconds after that the torp will go up. And the torp stacks up.

Giga's lose torp so fast that you can't wait 5 seconds or you just waste the tranq items

Unless you shoot the dino as it is passing out, then you mess up your taming effectiveness.

So, since the giga has massive HP, if an extra shot gets through after it keels over, its impact on taming effectiveness is nearly non-existant.
Google "ark taming calc"

100-150 body shots from a journeyman xbow

My first giga was a 52. Took around 200-300 narc arrows with my apprentice crossbow (headshots)

Lots and lots and LOTS of actual narcotics. Don't let its unconscious meter fall below 50% if you can help it. It's got a higher chance to wake up early.
