The Compound bow
Why is it so expensive to make for what it does? it doesnt even deal more damage than a crossbow if you use anything but the expensive metal arrows.

i could deal with it, if the arrows didnt cost polymer to make though. but the over all cost for the bow alone is also just too high.

Penetrates armor

and that alone makes it worth its absurd cost?

if you shoot someone twice or 3 times with a normal longneck rifle, they already destroy what ever piece they hit, thus they will be unarmored at that part, and negating the need to even penetrate through it.

Yeah, when somone walks up to you with mastercraft flak armor on a pvp server, and you shoot them with a crossbow, they laugh it off.

You shoot them with a frick'n compound bow, and their life is in danger.

Better aiming with the sight, quicker draw and release time then a regular bow. Can still shoot regular stone and tranq arrows. Deals a heck of a lot of damage with the metal arrows. Personally my favorite weapon in the game. Might be a little expensive on a vanilla server. But at 2x or 3x gather it's not that expensive.

yeah, and with the penguins in the game, polymer is super easy to gather. It just takes a short trip to the snow biome now.

If i wanted to go pvp i wouldnt use a bow in the first place unless i wanted to tranq him, i would just use a Longneck Rifle (or the new rifle) from a distance and a shotgun at close. both items perform better than the compound bow, at least effeciency wise speaking due to their cost.

unless you live far off that area, then you still need to get it back and make the arrows in the fabricator.

i dont have the bow, but you do have to make the arrows in the fabricator, yes? the polymer wears off after 30 min.

It's more a preference thing.

There is no real difference between the longneck and the compound bow. Aside from the bow having more armor pen and the rifle having longer range.

Depends on what you need, and what you feel more comfortable with.

I can atest to the fact that it's more than easy.

Using a 200% mvt speed ptera with weight spec, I fly to the snow biome, kill penguins, and bring back plenty of polymer.

It's considerably easier than making normal polymer. X_X

i didnt know you could actually use that organic polymer to make this bow. thats kinda ok i guess then. i only came back recently, and organic polymer didnt exist when i left.

Does Organic Polymer lose spoil like food 1 at a time?

The problem is simply that you can easily come by ~200% damage bows/crossbows, making the composite bow that is only available as a primitive 100% version obsolete for anything but PVP.
A 137% damage crossbow deals the same damage with stone arrows as a composite bow with metal arrows against unarmored targets.

And for PVP the composite bow is very strong against targets that move slowly. It is significantly harder to hit anything that moves in regard to arrow travel time compared to guns, and you also can find ~200% longnecks/shotguns that very quickly take care even of high armor parts.

Overall the composite bow is a cool weapon, but nothing justifies the costs of the metal arrows yet.

indeed. a bit of what i was worried about with the high cost. while armor penetration sounds fine and all, even something as menial as a nomal gun chews through armor and breaks it fast enough.

i dont feel like i even need armor penetration.

it does more damage than an xbow
if you use the metal arrows, plus it does more damage with more melee

One thing I dont get. Its not realistic for it to deal LESS damage with non iron arrows. It should be better than crossbow for taming...
