Just built one of these bad boys and I can't create customisable consumables? Is that intended?

Likely intended, it is for mass cooking after all and the devs do their best to never make anything obsolete. So having a normal cooking pot around for experiments makes perfect sense and the industrial one for making your invented recipe in mass.

I thought that too, but then they are also changing industrial forges so they can use wood for quickly massing large sums of charcoal. Thats too bad, kinda makes regular forges obsolete now.

They'll likely give a reason to have a few around, they might take the ability to make gas away from the industrial version.
