Why am I unable to change name of private server?
Hello,

I'm trying to claim my private server on gametracker.com. Part of this process involves temporarily adding the string "GameTrackerClaimServer" to the server name.

I use the text editor to edit the GameUserSettings.ini file by adding this string to the server name. Unfortunately, when I restart the server it reverts back to the previous server name.

The value I'm changing is SessionName=, under [SessionSettings]. Clearly something keeps overwriting this and restoring the original name, but I'm not sure what.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

not trying to sound mean, but open the same thing, do the same thing, and ensure it saves, open it back up. Then stop your server, then restart it. Give it about 15min to check to see if it took.

or just use the ark server manager, shut the server down, change the name of the server, start it again and you're good

Doesn't sound mean. In the past I haven't waited 15 mins before checking the server name, I only wait until the server is back online.

I just stopped the server, changed the name, the started it again. The session name doesn't appear to have reverted yet, which is good. I'll give it 15-20 mins and see how it goes.

Edit: the name didn't revert back to the original in the first couple of minutes after starting the server again, but now it has (after 3-4 minutes).

Don't know if there's any reason to think the SessionName is going to change back to the new name.

a while back i had the same issue (doing the same thing you were doing). Ended up leaving and coming back, and it ended up working. I was just impatient.

It would be nice if that's all I'm doing wrong; not waiting. I'll give it 20 mins and see how it goes.

Use commandline to set name.

I've never done this before and don't know how. I couldn't find any guides on how to do this. Do you know where I can find instructions to learn about this?

Also, the server has reverted back to the original name despite waiting 20+ minutes.

I've contacted the hosting company for help because clearly I'm doing something wrong.

To start a server, you need to run executable. Executables can be run with additional parameters. My server allows me to specify these parameters:

"TheIsland?GameModIDs=497432858,542073905,541612317,479295136,537753733,519998112,536214294,510590313?RCONEnabled=True?RCONPort=27070?SessionName=AURORA PVE Vanilla+ Mods?MaxPlayers=35?Port=27069?QueryPort=27069?ServerPassword=?ServerAdminPassword=****?AllowDeprecatedStructures=true?ForceAllStructureLocking=true?listen"
