What's the whole point of Oviraptor?
I mean, sure, he can steal WILD animals' eggs but.. chances are, the animals are either way too strong and aggressive or already weak and manageable to take advantage of it. What's the point I ask? Might as well go get them on my own, killing the dinos that eventually get aggroed, it'd be much easier. Not to mention the fact he can only carry one egg at any given time, and its favourite food is nonetheless GIGANOTOSAURUS EGG. Egg production boost? Meh, didn't notice that much of a change in my pen. Might as well remove this thing from the game, it serves no purpose..

PS: for the ignorant people who will come up and say "well he's meant to steal others' eggs, that's what it did in reality", I'd like to reply that:
1) the 'oviraptor' got his name erroneously, as the eggs it was first found next to later turned out to be oviraptor eggs, and it probably hunted small creatures like lizards and such, meaning its diet wasn't (as many still think, I hope the devs aren't among those) mainly about eggs.
2) even assuming it did, I don't think an ankylosaurus could have been able to break rich metal rocks using its tail, nor a quetzalcoatlus could fly with ease having a metal house built on its back.

He does steal eggs. More specifically it steals YOUR eggs, when you tame it XD.

I feel like the amount of low level eggs it takes to tame these guys counteracts the whole purpose of this dino, almost as if it was intended as a high-tier accessory. Even then it's a negligible bonus if you already have the egg economy to tame one. This also counterracts the dossier stating it is "One of the more commonly tamed creatures on the island".. hah

Who the heck doesn't have a couple dozen spare rex eggs nowdays? They're so useful and easy to tame it's easy for me to understand why they are so commonly tamed HAH

highest dinos with 65 i own are raptors, pteras. i dont want rexes, giga is disabled on my server with settings i like. i hate the spinos and brontos, space consuming ugly monsters. mammuts dont lay eggs same as paracers. both i want. so no useless wild egger for me.

first the delicate meat eater comply, now the oviraptor. fine you can tame a fat end game monster with wild meat in masses, but the smallest and this ovi-tool are ages harder to get in relation to the damage monsters.

I think the key thing with the Ovi is the boost to mating recovery. So you can breed your 'perfect' dinos faster.

I play solo on my server, no tribes, nothing. For weeks I've been looking forward to this creature that boosts egg-laying and collects them so that I can get my rexes to lay more eggs so I can finally tame a quetz...
The Ovi is pretty damn useless in that aspect. There are plenty of people saying that the dossier states that it only steals eggs, but I don't think dinos care when something is stealing or not, egg is egg... take!!!

He increases the egg laying rate of your animals, you still have to do the work of collecting them.

Not true, get it on wander next to your dinos, camp for 30 min and you will notice it boosts them..

No its doesn't. I am sitting here and the egg rates are not increasing. I see the egg thing above the dinos and it does decrease the time between breeding but not much else.

its normal that if you are near the dinos and on a peak update time (more players loading your dinos) that you get more eggs the oviraptor has nothing to do with this...

Here is how you use an oviraptor -

The female is the only one that omits fermones that increases egg production.

Tame a male and female. Place them in their own enclosure near the middle of your dino egg producers so they don't wander off. Set the oviraptors on wander to mate. After a few seconds the egg buff will start. As always, all dinos produce more eggs if they are mated and the oviraptor buff will do very little for unmated females.

Read the wiki. It just lowers the timer on laying eggs. It doesn't increase the chance at all. So the dino rolls to lay an egg or not more frequently.

An Oviraptor set to wandering provides a buff that reduces the egg laying timer from 17 minutes to 11 minutes 20 seconds (Put stones/wood in the Oviraptor's inventory to keep it in 1 place).

So you don't want any Dino ? Why are you playing at Ark ? No giga, no rex, no spino and bronto...
