Whats the best place to live on the Island?
Note: I never said where is the SAFEST Place on the Island. I am asking for the all-around best place on the island to live. Which area has the best balance of Resources/Danger/Wildlife?

Mid north coast / center of map technicly :P

West coast, a bit south of where the snow biome starts I would say. It's where I would head if I was starting over again and it was available. It's relatively safe from predators, good close access to the resources of the swamp, volcano and snow biome, plus there's a few picturesque cliffs and waterfalls and stuff so it looks real purty too :D

the oasis is a good spot in itself if you can get there alive that is only predators that spawn in there are dilo's, occassioanl raptors and piranhas and a few sarco's but they're easy to avoid if you don't base on the river itself

Top of the volcano. In the corner. In a 7x7 TALL as hell base blocking only the far corner spawns of metal (won't block many)

NO danger, Most resources (metal) and you are on top of the world!

Your best choice depends on your level, and how you like to play: PVP or PVE? If PVE, do you plan to build metal base for protection from Gigas? Do you need room to keep lots of dinos? Would you prefer to keep dinos outside, with a perimiter fence, or are you OK with a large enclosed barn for them? Do you want major carnivores close at hand to kill for xp leveling up? Mountains nearby for resources mean a risk of air attacks from Argentavis and the larger land dinos... etc....

Stay somewhat close to mountains, but not so close as to put yourself at risk of a Giganoto attack. It's definitely convenient to live on the slope of a mountain like I used to, but unless you've got a base made completely of metal like I did, it's not worth the risk. So keep a safe distance. Anywhere with flat terrain and in pretty close proximity to a mountain is a pretty good spot.

Well...as of right now:

Singleplayer. Level 31, I have a Low-Level Raptor. Currently living in a 2x3 Thatch house on a cliffside on the Southern Beaches. Have a Mortar and Pestle, Smity, and Refining Forge, I prefer to keep dinos just outside my house, I dont wanna deal with anything bigger then a Low-Level Carno right now, cant make it to the mountains.

Southern area

i live in hidden lake on the north east corner of the map, iv got a smaller beach house on the stony beach just accross from the north island. the bay between north island and the stony beach is where i keep my aquatic dinos.

hidden lake itself is in wut i assume is a sinkhole with 3 passages out once blocked off with dino gates the hidden lake is pretty much safe, rarely a carno or a pair of raptors will spawn but usually the herbies that spawn there will kill em off. worst thing iv seen around my area are rex but they tend to stay around the smugglers pass.

hidden lake also has 3 drop zones in it with another 4 within parasaur running range.

its surrounded by dense jungle and in one of them jungles is a load of large rocks, there are also stones for pickup all along stony beach.

metal i source from the mountain top further west which iv set up a small refinery house, i started exporting metal with 3 pterodactyl then an argent and now a quetz. ( i recomend 1 ptero for riding and 2 argent for hauling till you get a quetz )

the sea around this area has just about everything you could want, a few caves bunch of oil & pearls and plenty of sealife most notably anglers which yeild angler gel. my first aquatic was a sarco and i was terrified of the deep, the bay is shallow so a good starting point to get used to underwater activities. there is this awesome sea mount that almost pokes out the surface, its a great diving spot helps u keep your orientation when deep diving.

iv scouted another spot i wana try but i dunno if its very newbie friendly, its called "the maw" and only accessable by flying mount, but theres a great plateau to build on and another close by with metal. its located in the river that cuts the island in half just follow the river till u see what i am talking about. this spot is near the center of the map so close to everyting.

Big drawback living in the South West (or North) on Cragg's Island for example, there is no metal. Good start out point, since there aren't many predators and relatively safe, but only to begin. Later on, you gonna have to relocate, in absence of metal, crystal and obsidian.
I had to relocate and built 3 bases already at different points on the map, depending on the resources I can gather.
Right now, I kinda lost the drive to play..I died recently and just don't feel like gathering materials to re-do my stuff.

My vote goes to middle of the map island slightly down the mountain. You have access to metal and crystal on the mountain, access to tons of wood in the forest, theres a relatively flat building area on the east side of the island and also you have a beach area where some spinos and rexes spawn and tons of argies and sabercats spawn on the mountains edge, its a balanced area in my opinion, although personally I no longer live there I have on two other servers and if you have the defenses its a good place.

there is another spot i have thought about testing thats probably very safe as i've never seen anything spawn there is there is this ravine in the south east of the map and it splits in two before coming back together around this huge column in the air that you could base on only downsides is that its hard to reach without a flier or a excess of supplies to build your way up and then that your basically stuck there unless you build a bridge with alot of pillars(would require ladder positioning for the skilled or fliers for most) or a protected ladderhouse to get to and from it, to tell the truth i've never seen anyone in there cause of the difficulty it requires so makes ya think how safe it would be ;p word of warming t-rexs and gigantosaurus's spawn there ALOT and they are sneaky
