Dual weilding swords in reality in the sense most people want to (for faster attacking) is silly, the offhand sword is normally much smaller and used mostly for defense, parrying mostly to open up oppertunities with the primary sword.
In fantasy games, the developers have no idea how reality works, or do not care because it is established fantasy lore that dual weilding means faster attacking. This simply isnt the case. While it did happen in history, it was more for show such as in tournements, or by people using a dagger like weapon in their offhand because sheilds are impractical to carry around in civilian life. This was not a tactic on historical battlefields.
In reality, you are much better off with a shield in your off hand, a large metal object to block attacks from hitting you while you close the distance to attack is much better than a thin steel bar. You would also be dual weilding, because you can indeed use a shield as a weapon, it is a large object that has weight to it (most weigh less than 10 lbs but this game likes to have them weigh far more) you can hit someone with.
In this game a pike should do more damage than a sword, but the devs have given us a 5 lbs sword that is double the weight it should be in reality and a pike that does slighlty more than half the damage of the sword, where in reality it should do far more, since you are using both hands and it has more mass.
Then we can have twice the horrendous animation and anemic impacts, huzzah!
I imagine if any game tried to accuratley display HEMA, players would be utterly confused.
