Pressing E twice does work but you cannot have a weapon of any kind equipped.
The fusion is permanent unless you perform surgery on yourself to remove it. (By double tapping E) But you need to do it in an open area. If there is a structure/animal in front of you, it won't work.
You can also perform self-surgery on the go by mounting something and then pressing X. This is most commonly done while flying over an Alpha, who will then proceed to eat your former shoulder parasite, making it an efficient way to get rid of them.
Then again, this is commonly done by accident... RIP shoulder mounted pets :c
yes i noticed this recently- X works only when mounted on a Dino. if used while standing, you will crawl. tapping E twice throws the shoulder mounted Dino off, but i have noticed sometimes it doesn't work unless (in addition to having a weapon equipped) you are facing an open space or your camera is more horizontal and not facing downwards. it might just be me but this seems to happen a lot in my game when i'm moving my pack of Dimo's around inside my base.
Failing all else, hop onto a flyer and press X. That will also throw the mounted dino from your shoulder.
Look at it and press E
