Tethering distance limit removal
I was just wandering if there is any way you can remove the tether distance limit, ive been looking thru the internets without finding anything so far.

And would removing it and moving past that 800m make our server lag out or..?? If it would well...ill have to deal with it.

Ty in advance :)

The tether is for a computer that is running the server and a client. This puts a lot of strain on the host computer.

If you think your conputer can handle itm you can chamge the .ini

There is a setting you can change there. Search how to do it.

The easiest way might be to just run a dedicated server instead. You can use the ARK server manager to make it pretty easy, really. No tether there.

You can change the distance in non dedicated settings screen. The slider goes to 3x but you can type a number in the box next to it to override. Be warned though anything more than 5 or 6x will make a decent rig run crap. If u have a good pc just run a dedicated seperatly on it.

Yup, you can definitely play on it. You would just run the server manager, adjust all your settings in there that you want, save it, start the server and once it's running you can just start ARK like normal through steam and connect to it.

The farther you make it the more resources it takes and the harder it is for your computer to run the game well. Performance can get bad. The tether is there for a reason.

Experiment with it and see how far you you need it to go and how far you can go without killing performance.

Or just create a dedicated server and play without a tether.

Yes, if you have a halfway decent pc you can run a seperate dedicated server on your pc and the also play the client on the same pc.
I personally just set it to something high enough so that it's around the size of the map - 30.0 is a good example, as that's about 30 miles I believe? It still works fine, and when doing that I've never had the tether distance loser attack me while I'm playing.

sorry i hate to necro but..... i set mine to 1000.0 and play with 3 friends, we are still in the early beginings of a new map and i was wondering, as our bases get bigger will it affect lag more? should i lower it to 500 as to compensate for future growth...? i have not noticed any lag inccress since bumping it up to 1000.0 and its been a few days...

good to hear... the 4 of us can and have flown to the 4 oposite corners of the map without problem we then proceded to play musical corners in a clockwise manner around the map.... i kinda though i was all good but the other players said it might harm the pc... so i asked :) ty for a timely response.

Answer... tested on multiple people's PC systems as of 9/24/2018

Type in tether distance 500.0 this should be approximately 24km.

Not tested on console. Console apparely has removed this option, sorry you picked the wrong platform. You may be able to enter the console command PlayersOnly on console.
