How do you get metal with only stone tools?

curious because it seems like the only way to metal is to use metal tools

use anky, or use stone pick. You get metal, just in smaller amounts.

You can get metal rarely from any stone with the stone pick, or go to the mountains and hit the metal nodes with it and you'll get more, enough to make a metal pick.

Or just go find a metal rock on the mountains and not rely on pure luck while mining river rocks

Go hunt argents, and kill them. before eating their body loot them (unless your dino looted them) they have a chance to give you metal pick/axe. of if you have a mega go shark hunting. and do same.

Go find Gold rocks, beat on them with stone tools better odds of metal.

Then craft your metal items.

you just need to get a metal pickaxe to be able to harvest metal really quick. all you need for that is 5 metal ingots for a smithy and 1 metal ingot for the pickaxe. this means you need to get 12 metal ore from stones. just hit stones everywhere you see, they sometimes drop 1 metal. just after a few rocks you'll have your metal tool

Thanks yeah I saw it, they changed the values I think for it. I thought I remember it being cost like 5 or 7 metal maybe

You can also boost your melee which by virtue of improving your total yield will raise your metal yield accordingly.

Find the shiny rocks up in the mountains.

There's an easy one to the south that you can get to with little trouble.

just use the stone pick. But you have to picking at rocks that have metal... The metal pick isn't some magical tool that pulls metal out of stone, it just makes it easier.. Certain types of rocks and boulders have a better chance of giving metal.

A stone pickaxe can get metal but very little. If you are by a river or inlet around the ocean, there are rounder and smoother rocks next to the water that has a higher chance of metal than a regular rough rock. Once you can make a metal pickaxe, you can get more metal from those rocks. Once you can get to a mountain with gold color rocks, you can get more metal. all metal received from rocks needs to be smelted into ingots to make tools/weapons. good luck.
