Non-Dedicated Cave Tether Distance 2
With or without mods, me and my friend have been experiencing a glitch. Whenever we enter a cave together, he cannot move from me a single foot. It's worse the further in. Eventually it begins to glitch the cave and causes us to noclip and crash Ark. When we rejoin, it has reversed time a little bit.

I tried this with no mods. Same effect.

Mods on his server. Same effect.

I have a feeling it has something to do with the host tether distance as it says "out of host's range," although we have it set to 6.66.

Please help!

EDIT - This is non-dedicated. Also, when I go in alone, it doesn't work. When he goes in alone, he's teleported to me. We've lost one of our Raptor's this way.

We've tried multiple caves. Clever, Devourer, Massive. We've gotten the artifacts and he's feeling a little down (as he hates singleplayer) and I'd rather not do them again without him.

EDIT - We went into one and we both ended up noclipping. Had to go back into an earlier save. Also, this is the second discussion as the one I posted earlier (a month ago) wasn't getting ANY attention, and this is a rather large issue.

I'm not sure how to fix this for you, but, you could consider just running a dedicated server. It's not hard at all if you use the sever manager and you can copy your save over.
I have the same issue when playing with a relative....we just dont bother with caves now. Its either unplayable due to glitching and rubberbanding while in the cave, even next to each other....or we fall through the floor and die, either way its not fun and no point even trying.

Im assuming the reason why this gets pretty much ignored is that the devs are concentrating more on the dedicated server aspect of the game and really dont care about those running local non dedicated. Not a complaint though, its their game and their choice....but just an observation. I ended up just running a dedicated server on my media pc in the loungeroom when I play with my kids....works fine and we can still watch netflix or run XBMC while its running so it doesnt affect the rest of the household.

I am considering it, but this is still an issue that needs to be fixed.

On the old post, other people have had the same symptoms as you. Ours just includes going back in time, losing animals and randomly dying with no items being dropped.

Well I never said they shouldn't fix it, just trying to give you an option that works fine until they get to the fix.

I'm aware, and thank you for that. I'm currently looking into it.
I have the same problem even though the tether distance is really high, my cousin said like 1,000. But i still have the problem. the first time we tryed to go into a cave he walked in and i was on my sarco, but then me and my sarco glitched inside the cave and said i was out of range, like you said. then i could not get my sarco out because the entrence of the cave was too small for my sarco. I think since the caves are kinda different thing that is sepret from the rest of the land that it has to have you both inside the cave so it works, so i think going into close together will work.

I will try it out. Ya sometimes i type a lot.

Tether distance is hardcapped at 3 or 4 regardless of what you set it to. Caves are REALLY touchy on a non-dedi. Not sure why.
I learned how to set up a dedicated server on my PC to play together why my GF. Wasn't that hard TBH and it resolved A LOT of issues we had. Downside is that you need half a ton of RAM.

It's not a bug. It's by design. Caves and the ocean in some maps are considered a different "zone" of the map, and one of the limitations of SP is that only one zone can be loaded at a time, so when the host goes into a different zone, the rest of the map ceases to exist on the server and all the clients get yanked to the host (often with buggy results like falling through the mesh).

The same solution there was way back then is still the only solution: run a dedicated server.
this is an archaic post made like four years ago just saying y'all
