Quetzal Base - Protect the inside contents?
I have a high damage quetzal, 1200 damage and 10k health and i'm trying to figure out a good base setup. I have found 2 foundation wide and 3 long, however with my current setup with 2x2 and ceilings on the back to extend it i'm having problems when dinos attack me. Their attacks go through the walls and destory cabinets and anything else pretty quickly.

Is there a way around this? I am using stone right now, would metal solve this? I have holes where i can connect the foundation and the walls bellow, could this be the problem?

would using 3 foundation wide solve this also? Anyone else have this problem?

3 wide with another layer of wall so they dont reach the inside layer.

how would you do 3 wide and an additional layer, would that mean you only have 1 square if you did 3x3?

Rofl, that looks disgusting.
Also the layout is pretty dumb, build up with pillars, then ceillings, on top of that your house, thus no dino attacking your quetz will have a reason to attack your house.
Additionally i think the concept of a high dmg quetz with a living house is dumb too.
Tame a 2nd one and level health and weight and use that as living house quetzal. Keep the other one with fridges and a grill to farm meat fast and efficient.

i have a quetz mainly for hunting, but theres also all stuff for crafting on it, like mortar and pestle up to a fabricator, i use it for taming, hunting, trading, iron smeltering, oil farming and heavy weight transports

if you have never used a high damage quetz i suggest you try it. I can clear all dinos around me within seconds, and have endless prime and spoiled meat. I can cover the entire map looking fore exact dinos to tame, i just tamed another quetz from it.

I am just trying to figure out how to protect the fridge and other stuff that will go inside. Thanks for the replies!

I would prefer not to go with 3 wide because it obstructs the view so much, i tried it before i tried out this 2 wide design and i like it. I mainly scan from above and look for alphas, and when i was using 3 wide by 2 high it made it pretty hard to see around. I am willing to try different designs though, i havent seen any online that i like.

Anyone care to share screenshots of theirs?

The base you have looks good :)
Ive had the same problem with chests ect being destroyed during fights.
What ive done now is just put all stuff on the quetz itself. (it takes the same weight on the bird as if you would use chests).

only thing i loose regulary is my bed :)

disco... tame a 2nd one and use it for a house.
i didnt say that a quetz house dumb, its totally okay, but please... dont go hunting with a house lol...
keep the platform on the current one but build something hunting dedicated on its back and make it on top of at least 3 pillars high... like this:

OOO --- !!! !!! !!!
! = PILLAR
- = CEILING
O = Your stuff (fridges, grill, gen, whatever)

The physics of this game are fkd up totally, and they will be until release, so dont try to protect your stuff, just keep it away from trouble.

A Q's attack reaches pretty far down.

Don't fly down to the dino you're attacking and the platform base is relatively safe. =)

Stone is good enough for most dinos... except alphas.

I wil try building the pillars and ceiling idea instead of foundations. I really want to get it 2 wide though. I think i can have a very similar design to my current one.

What i like about my current design is that in the back i have a hatch which i can go down to the bottom and under the saddle platform and there, standing on ceilings, i can have very easy and quick access to the bird. I am thinking, if i can have it so the fridge does not take damage, i want to keep it under the saddle so i could access and move prime very quickly. Grill would be down there also. And a door with a ramp would be nice too.

Top would be left for fabricator (if i can fit it in the 2x4 or 2x3 space), smitty, morter and pestle!!!! (very important, this is what i want to keep alive the most while battling because the quetz has endless spoiled meat) and maybe a forge. Below would be preserving bins, grill and fridge.

Just gotta have it so brontos and other dinos will not destroy the interior items.

btw i'm on private server, 3x taming and 3x resource gathering

top part is 2 wide and 4 deep (2 wide like the platform width)

hatch are goes down 3 walls
bottom area is 1 - 2 walls high, 2x3 possibly.

edit: Just remembered that i might have to ditch the bottom idea, a carried agro dino could be inside my base if i do that. I"ll have to check it out

All this time I've been setting up a 3x3 by trying to place one of the corner pillars square first. So many pillars wasted and so many frustrating mouse tosses and I never though to just stick one in the center first and use preview to check alignment. I suppose that disqualifies me from the master of the obvious award.
