Remove Electric Cable and Go to AOE Power Grids?
I know this is possible because Aki Shuma does it as well as some other mods. So can we please remove the awful looking electric cabbles and just do an area thats powers, and need like transformers or something to move power to a certain area.

I currently despise cable laying in this game, so is this something that the ark devs could do?

It looks really ugly espcially when they bring in the wall lamps i seen on themod kit, little cut wall lights with big wires :/

It would just make base laying so much nicer!

To be realistic and balanced, I think trunk cabling with the power boxes is fine. It takes a bit to become proficient in laying it clean, but it's certainly possible in most base setups. I would like to see the small wiring (power box to appliance) eliminated since it does nothing but look bad. They could also make trunk cabling snap to structures without screwing with resource balance.

It would be nice if we could craft batteries, and all electrical items had inventory slots for batteries.

The genny should just supply power to an aoe radius

I wouldnt even mind that, just something to make it look cleaner and not a nightmare like it currently is, same with irrigation

tbh, I'm never one to inject the "realism" card into a game... but AoE water and electricity is a little... absurd when we're asking purely from an aesthetics PoV.

FYI: You can hide all electrics in the foundations. Water not so much.

To an extent you can, but when you get on any kind of rough terrain and have to build a house based on pillars and ceiling tiles then you cant hide anything :/

You are totally right about the building system not being userfriendly, but I can give you the tipp to build your power cables (and water pipes) into foundations and ceilings. As long as all your buildings facing into the same direction, you can have invisible power in every room and water out of every wall (but I am well aware, that this is totally annoying to build...but it looks beautiful after you get used to it)
Also I mostly try to hide my cables from viewers, to make it less easy for raiders to cut of my defence grid.
Open Cable (also transition into ground cables)

The other side of the building (The cables are under the foundations and ceilings, also the perfectly looking water tap coming out of the wall)
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=537849001

Maintanance tunnels with open electrical grid and water grid (the fun part is, that you cant really see the water grid)

The point of this is to place a cross section right under your ceiling. If you now place a vertical piece, it will be hidden in your walls (the bad part about this, is 1. all your buildings have to be in the same foundation grid or have to face into the same direction 2. you cant really see where you build, since they are hidden in the wall). If you build that way, you can have water and electricity in every room.

If you have open cables from building to building, build vertical water pipes (yes you can build water pipes onto electric cables lol) onto the cables to simulate pillars for a better overall look.

I hope that my idea inspires someone, also I would be glad to see other people ideas to lay cables more beautiful.

Been asking for Tesla Coils now for a while. I really hope the Dev's or the Modders will put them in with a large radius of effect. I don't mind haing the Telsa Coil expensive as all get out to make as long as it works and gets rid of the wires.

I'd also LOVE to see 1/2 sized and 1/4 sized cable and transition lengths that would help out a lot as well.

Thats a very nice looking base, I'll try that sometime! I also wish it was easier for cables to lay in the ground

I totally agree with the OP suggestion ! Electrical cables are a real pain and it's so ugly and unrealistic to have electrical cables floating in the air without any sort of support..
Reaperxvii Oct 23, 2015 @ 3:55pm
And like SzA said, just having cables that properly snap to wall pieces and arent so big would be amazing
