Points Into Melee DMG really worth it in regards to end-game PvP on a boosted server?
I'm playing on an Unofficial boosted server and am contemplating whether or not putting points into melee damage is really worth it. Seeing as how resources are more easy to come by (guns and ammo), I'm starting to leaning towards putting my points into a more beneficial trait. Shotguns could very easily take the place of pike for close range. As for enemy mounts, I could simply tame a mount of my own.

Anyone share to care their opinion? Is there something I'm missing?

Even when you mostly use dinos for big farming sessions the melee points are worth it.
Let's say for killing piranhas or insects or farming stuff real quick for a tame.
I got a few points in but seriously not for pvp.

Nope, not worth. Stick with HP and Move Speed for PvP. Shotty + Longneck will beat a pike any day. Especially with the increased HP.

Until they make the pike have some sort of value, or other items that scale from Melee Damage, the points in it are useless for PvP. You will die every time if you rush in with a pike.

I play on an unofficial boosted server, and I can say I do not miss melee damage at all after putting 0 points into it. I run with a ton of HP, some stamina, move speed, and a CRAP TON of weight capacity. With the boosted rates having extra melee damage is just ridiculous when I can get almost encumbered from one rich gold node and 400 weight capacity. In PvP situations, we've fought three tribes so far and it has never really coem down to melee combat. We either win or lose from afar with dinos and positioning. Official servers I dumped several levels into melee, unofficial, I wouldn't even touch it.

Yeah, these are all good points. I made the mistake of spamming points into melee when I first started playing but see no use of it end-game, especially when you're on a boosted server. Another thought that occurred to me is the option of crafting "Battle Tartar" in a Cooking Pot in those rare situations where melee damage might come in handy.

Here's my take on it. Dinos pretty much account for EVERYTHING you need. Strength is useless except maybe in PVP in very limited situations. It is good for harvesting sure, but you should invest in taming the dinos made for harvesting.

Movement Speed therefore is your most important stat as well as stamina. Why? You need to kite dinos more often than not to tame them, granted it's much easier with the Quetzalcoatlus. However it's still important and is really effective for PVP.

The other stats that are really worthwhile depending, are Health and Weight.

Replace Dinos with creatures. c;
