Mate Boost distance ≠ Breeding distance
If two dinos are in range enough to be mate boosted, should they not be within range enough to breed?

I have two Sarcos in a 6x8 pen (which is small for a Sarco) and if they wander 4-5 foundations away from each other, the breeding resets. However, they are always within mate boost distance inside the pen.

I don't understand the point of enabling wandering for breeding if the dinos need to be kept in a 4x4 pen in order to breed. It looks horribly mechanical and takes away from the natural feeling of breeding by wandering. I love the concept, but it just doesn't work. Why prevent ridden and encumbered dinos from breeding if you want us to squish them in a pen so small that their heads stick through the walls?

This wouldn't be an issue if the "stop until task is complete" that the Giganto uses in berry picking applied here as well.

They used the enable wandering to breed so people were not accidentally popping out fertilized eggs at random. Mate boost radius should not be enough to breed. If you are within eyesight of your significant other, are you within range to 'breed'?. Stick your dinos in a 4-5x2 pen and they will breed fine. I have not had a single issue with it thus far.

My point is not that it's impossible, but that it just looks so bad. What is the problem with encumbering a dino while shoving them in a box is ok? Both methods seem like exploiting the mechanic in my opinion.

I understand the point of enabling wandering, but I still think it's a very messy system if you are forced to shove them into a small box to do the nasty.

From a logistical standpoint, mating is a much more intimate activity than protecting someone from danger.

Perhaps. Then maybe a change in the wandering AI would be better if in range of a potential mate. If the two wandering dinos would both wander but stay in range of each other, this would make a lot more sense. Right now it's as if the two mating dinos have zero interest in each other and you're saying, "No one's coming out of this box until you make a baby!"

Breeding range is ridiculously small.

I have to keep Dodo's in a 1x1 pen ie the size of a single foundation placement, if in a 2x2 and they are in different corners they will not mate i.e hearts go off.
This of course means they literally can't move or wander, they just stand in the corner stuttering rapidly.
Not only that but you try and get a bunch of dodo's to follow you into a 1x1, no fun.
Same with other dinos, Dilos are limited to a 2x2.
I have trikes in a slightly larger pen because of their size, maybe 4x4, if they go to opposite ends they cannot breed.
Limits now are far too restrictive especially now that you need wandering on.

they should implement that mating animation to keep breeding couples coupled and not wander away during sex...
