[HOW TO] Feeding Baby Dinos
I see a lot of people having issues keeping babies alive, so I figured I'd let people know how I'm doing it at the moment. I have a baby trike and a rex egg I am looking after solo right now, which is relatively easy once you get the hang of it.

First step is determine what you are going to be raising. Is it an herbivore or a carnivore? If you're going to raise an herbivore, stock up a bunch of berries and if you're going to raise a carnivore, stock up on raw meat before you mate your dinos.

::IMPORTANT:: Do NOT place the berries or meat in a Feeding Trough! Keep your food intended for your baby on a dino and park it close by for easy access. I would say fill up it's inventory to a comfortable level so that you can still ride and move it as needed.

The reason you do not want to place the food into the feeding trough is that the baby increases it's food level a certain amount every second. If you were to give it access to unlimited food, every second it would need to feed to fill up the 1-2 points of food it just gained from maturing.

When the egg hatches, feed the baby dino about 10-20 pieces of food every so often and watch the food stat. You can actually see it hit the food cap as it grows; When food it consumes only gives it about 3 food instead of 20, you know you have reached the cap and you can sit back and wait for a bit until it's food level drops a little. How far to let the food stat drop before feeding again is something you need to use your judgement on. Experience is going to be your best teacher here since as the dino can hold more food, the less you need to stand next to it and feed it as time goes on.

I hope this helps anyone having trouble! :)

I forgot to mention, you can also throw stacks of food on the baby dino and just wait until it's food caps then remove the food from it's inventory to save resources.

Hope you got 28 hours to feed a t-rex this often. Good luck.

I'm an a private server with 5x maturityrate but x2 dino food consumption rate. They still eat me out of house and home if I'm not careful to stock up beforehand.

Still going to take 30 hours staring at the baby with your wang out stroking it hopeing for it to mature before you grow old and turn to dust.

Can tame an army of max level rexes in that time.

People seem to mistake mundane and time consuming with difficult and challenging. This is not difficult or challenging it is just a time sink for the sake of a time sink that you cannot do if you have even 1% of what could be considered a life.

I'm not arguing that the time to reach maturity is far too long with default settings, but this was just to inform people on how to keep the baby alive until it can get a decent amount of food stat before they can walk away from it. Once they hit 2-3k food, I can leave and do other stuff and just check on them periodically.

Thanks for the effort and trying to make some sense out of this. But no thanks, if it stays like this i'll be fine without any babys. :)

I've had 3 baby raptors die, all three still had food in their inventory, max food at that so what's the deal?

Yeah, mine have hit the +10% imprinting and still not eating enough to replenish food fast enough. They're just starving to death.

Seriously getting pissed at this. Then the health will randomly jump down when it HAS food!

I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, I read the OP, but it still doesn't 'satisfy' the damn fussy raptor babies.

On the Switch-Version, it appears that you don't have to shove the food into the Baby, but place the Meat (currently growing al levwl 206-Argwntavis) into it's Inventory,
So no manual feeding, just refilling it's Inventory.

This is not true (anymore?), they eat 1 full food at a time, ie eating meat worth 40 will be eaten 1 meat when it needs 40 food, and then go to max. Not constantly eat meats for 1 food. (maybe lag a bit so it eats when missing 45 and still 5 below max after eating, but it won't eat at 35 and waste food).

As far the manual / handfeeding claims for babies, feeding them is NOT hand feeding, you place the food in inventory / Maewing (/Nanny).

Handfeeding is slot 0 walk close and then E to give, like you do with a passive tame or for imprints.
