you can alter ini.files probably, but one of the communities techy guys will have too help you with that..
I have had strangers join my non dedicated multiplayer sessions before... i crapped myself as well !!
Non-dedicated is no realtime server. You leave, your server saves and shuts down.
Non dedicated multiplayer session uses your singleplayer world,. I save the local files to desktop folder, and switch between them when i host or want to play my own world.
so basically you just reload the game and choose non dedicated session to restart the server...
or you can use the same world and choose each time you log into the game to either play that world in singleplayer mode, or non dedicated multiplayer.
You can increase the tether distance in options though to make it a bit better.
If you want to play on the same map miles away and independently from each other then you need to run an Ark Dedicated Server (free download via steam) but you should really have a seperate machine for that or it will bog your main machine down.
The other option is to search the browser and find an unoffical server that somebody else has set up (look in the Tribes forum for new servers).
Also, open the console via tab and type ShowMyAdminManager to open the , well, admin manager.
