Breeding Pen Ideas!

So with the release of 219 closely approaching I'm curious as to other peoples ideas regarding breeding pens. The post by Drake mentions that you set them to wander -presumably in a pen as to not get lost... so this means a whole new set of builds!!!

I'm setting up a "warehouse" with lots of sub-pens very very much like a horse stable. That way I can have a whole bunch of breeding for a particular species happening at once in a certain area. This should make breeding the best traits go much faster!

I wish they would add half walls and proper fence rails already, especially for this.

This is why I run the easy fence mod on my private server for my friends and also on my single player mode ;)

I'm making a horse stable of sorts. An outdoor area which will lead into an indoor spot. The indoor area will have a gate to lead outside. Point of that? Allow the parents to hang out outside, and when the eggs come they can be transferred inside. When the babies hatch, they can go outside when I want the gate open.

Interesting idea! As I'm having mine lay the egg inside due to temps being an important thing with hatching.

I've heard they have a problem with falling through floors. I haven't tried it yet myself but I have been looking it up. According to a video I watched they have to be in very tight quarters or they might not mate. The person who made the video recommended a 2x2 space for breeding raptors. Obviously it would need to be larger for larger dinos. I made a dino trap (big box with a ramp on one end, and a behemoth gate to let them out, with windows all around to shoot them with tranqs). I think it can double as a breeding pen.

Well, it could work if someone is riding one or both of the dinos. It's mostly for atheistic purposes though. c:

They patched the floor issue, I've bred 15+ times today and havent lost a single one =)

My tribe already had a 6 x 6 stone taming pen that we used to use for dropping animals in to tame- - walls 3 high with dino gates on the front and a human gate on the back- i just added an extra layer of walls then put a stone ceiling on- it's near a turret tower so power was no isue as the ac etc lines just snapped in. I used sloped wooden walls along one edge every tile to create 4 x egg bays, placed catwalks above with 2 x aircons and put 2 x standing torches in each bay just in case.

Placed a couple of fridges with windows behid so i can fill direct from the meat farmer outside. Also placed some feeding troughs outside /around the wall for later stage maturing.

The building is plenty big enough for raptors and eventually sabers / wolves to wander and mate. We have mated the raptors multiple times and sold on what eggs we didn't want to hatch.

So far we have hatched 3 raptors and 2 rex's (that's with the previous food bug) so should work fine now the food requirements are even less.

If we decide we still need a taming pen ill just add a couple more layers of walls above it and ramp down to the ground from another gate- no extra footprint space then up in the base and a dual purpose building!
