We have our basic structures started; and over the next few weeks we will be working on aesthetics of the houses and our yard... getting functional was paramount; with an anky base close by.
main house and yard:

Of course, like I stated above they all still need some extra loving with defense; and some general aesthetics; but you can see the basic idea from the screens.
Thanks for sharing~!
roofs // outside gate are just about complete; but we are going to spend some time making some catwalks on the outside of the cliff and house to add more aesthetic appeal eventually. But, we are now safe from easy drop-ins. Have inside turrets in place; next chunk of resources is going to outdoor turrets (bullets permitting.)

crops seem to grow just fine in the snow, covered and uncovered. I have read that the snow fills water reservoirs, but not too sure as I did full plumbing underneath our farm (below foundations).
all in all; I love living in the snow. all of the critical resources feel very close. its fun to feed the sabers Chowder and then dive for trilobites; get massive amounts of chitin real easy and they seem to line the snow biome ocean floors.
yea; log cabins aren't as 'safe' as a giant metal base; but in due time we want to reinforce the inside with metal, but still keep the Shell as is; cuz metal is ugly. Resources permitting; might even do an inside shell so I don't have to stare at metal 24/7. even painted with boomquality 0 its still kinda bright.
And I agree. I am loving the snow biome, though all the carnivores provide hassle from time to time. :P
This stops alphas/carnos etc chasing prey down off the mountain area above, which usually ends with hunter and prey alike falling over the edge of the cliff into your base area, causing a ruckus!

Who or what are you responding to? Most the SS are of very basic bases. Stone? wood? its not exactly hard to gather mats or build. Pretty much takes a few hours and using dinos to collect mats. You can collect wood and thatch using a mammoth, and you can collect stone using a Doedicurus. Once you get things built throw it on a bird and carry it to your building location. Completed objects like walls etc. weigh less than raw mats so it's not hard at all.
Maybe learn 2 play <3
totally true..
my standard construction team is a Mammoth, Doed, and a Bird. Mammoth is epic for wood obviously; but doed is superb for stone/thatch. I tend to craft as much as the bird can carry (plus my weight.. PVP server, gotta keep a few things ready 24/7) and either store them at the new build project or throw them up.

we finished the outside wall in a few hours, which is all stone dino gates. but server is 2x gather (and 4x respawn) so that helped a tad; but its totally possible. To be fair, both my mammoth and Doed have about 1000% dmg; and harvesting isn't clamped on server; so they gather pretty good. Doed gets about 100 stone per rock; and 50 thatch per tree. Mammoth is about 50 wood per tree.
now, making the whole gambit out of metal would be another story. IMHO the cement paste is cheesy easy now (chowder swimming cat FTW; trilobites galore) its the vault 100% full of metal requirement that I scoff at.
Did you have a real life model for them, like Petronas Twin Towers?
Good work btw, I bet that took a long time to farm
My next project is a copy of Sears Tower on one of the icebergs with a large enough flat area for it's footprint.
Farming mats? When I'm admin on a private server in an Alpha game where (a) the building system sucks so bad you lose half of any mats you put into it and, (b) everything is going to be wiped at release time anyway?
That would just be silly lol.
I just more-or-less "finished" my cabin the other day, so I'll try and post my own screens soon. It's fairly simple and not too show-y, but I like how it came out.
I've tried making really pretty/cool looking bases before, but it never works. All of my bases end up ugly and only work for practicality, not aesthetics, haha. Good job on those bases though, everyone. They look pretty neat.
uhh why exactly? that is precisely what I have in fortitude and in fur armor I am fine to roam the place. Very rarely does it get so cold that I need to run for cover, which is sometimes when I ascend to a high elevation. I actually entered the biome at 0 fort and it was annoying that I had to stay indoors, especially at night or during blizzards, fortitude really comes in handy there. Can't quite explain why you'd be dying from building there.
