Why are Onycs so strong?

They are hard to kill and absolutely destroy armor, even with 500 health we get destroyed. Why aren't they as easy to kill as spiders? Pleae devs.

We are using basic weapons like Bows and Spears, which I know aren't strong but I feel the Onyc really shouldnt be so hard to kill. With the spiders, it only takes about 3 arrows but just a level 1 Onyc takes about 10.

Onycs are pretty much stronger, and flying verison of a titanboa. How are you not getting crossbow, or better guns or a pike?

We actually did use a couple pikes on them but we ended up dying and we were not able to retrieve them. We are very far away from our base with trying to get all the artifacts. They are still hard to kill with a pike.

They really aren't hard to kill with a pike, aim up stab repeatedly.

Because of how many times we are dying down there, We don't want to waste resources and go back and forth between places in order to get stronger weapons. It's strange to me how small it is but how much of a punch it can pack, just being a bat.

You need really high durability armor + a decent pike + an xbow.

If you can pull just a few at a time with an xbow and fight them where you want to fight them they aren't so bad. It also depends on where you're fighting them .. if you're having trouble with the huge swarm of them in the north east cave, just forget the armor and run through the cave naked and kite the bats around. Its really easy after you figure it out. I don't think you can do this anywhere else though.

It also seems to help if you put your back into a wall, then crouch (c button) and pike towards them when they approach and s=pike straight up in the air once they've reached you.

Another thing to note, you might want to bring health potions and blood packs.

The pike kicks ass in the caves. Best weapon for it imo

1 Metal arrow + Compound bow = Dead Bat. Plus you get the arrow back. Pike works 2nd best and is far cheaper. If you were low level (or on Primitive server) they are difficult, but with 500 health you're high enough level that they should not be difficult at all.

It's not necessarily that they're not difficult, but with about 10 of them in a pack together and all of them attack you it's quite the challenge.

I don't know, but it makes sense how they are strong, they are in caves, and you don't seem them anywhere else

it is possible to fly through all caves except the Dead Island cave (NE cave)with a ptera and get the artifact without having to deal with the bats.
