Where to farm them? can it be collected by hand or also with mammoth?

You can find Plant Species X plants growing in the swamp biome, they look kinda like a cactus growing dragon fruit.

The safest and quickest early game - if you have a bird. Head up into the volcano. Follow the path down picking the red plants. You can pick by hand.

In the swamp you can get them from the plant itself in large amounts( 50-60 with an Anky) or as a rare find from the river plants. They are also a rare drop from red plants on mountains as others suggested.

trikes no longer farm these? i was able to a few patch notes ago, but now i havnt got a single drop after 15 mins on the red plants

I could be mistaken, but I have been farming the Rare Flowers for the past few days and while I would get the flowers I never and I mean never get a plant x seed. I used to get them from the small red coral plants on the mountains but I have not gotten one single plant x seed since the new biomes went live. Has anyone got a plant x seed from the small red coral plants since the new biomes went live?

Haven't tried the red corals yet, but before the new biomes they had an incredibly rare drop rate anyway. I found 2 seeds in an hour of searching. At the moment I recommend searching in the swamp biome as others already said. Just pick them by hand and you'll get around 5-10 seeds per plant. It's really worth it but bring a strong mount for the titanoboas and the sarcos! They can really mess you up, if you're not careful.
The plants in the swamp look like seedling/midling versions of Plant X.

i can farm a few hundred of these easily in the swamp with only little effort.

Not sure if the new biomes nerfed it, as another poster suggested, but taking a bronto up a mountain will net you a couple seeds with every tail swipe. Even with their slow movement, it's quicker than picking by hand.

Yeah, got a pile of them by accident with my Anky in the swamp.

sorry sister, this is no longer true. harvesting berries in the swamps will drop far more often than mountains now. a mammoth rampage in a swamp will yield at least a dozen when its inventory fills.
