Why is it so cold OUTSIDE the snow biome?
I've noticed recently the area just south of the snow biome is really cold all the time. Like, it's colder than the actual snow biome (sometimes I go into the snow just to stop losing health). I've seen it get as low as -40 which basically makes it impossible to be outside for very long, but in the snow itself it never seems to get cold enough that a fire won't at least stop the damage.

Devs have stated multiple times that the temperatures on the islands fluxuate to extremes without warning due to the instability of the climate.

Then what's the point of a biome themed around being cold if you're going to make it colder just outside? It doesn't make sense.

One day during the winter, I was standing in my yard, half of my yard was covered in snow, for some reason when I stood in the area without snow I was still cold.

I've had extreme cold and even continuous horrenous cold in the winter biome near constantly. The island's climate is volatile, meaning that at any point for any reason a cold front will run through the island to chill it off for a bit, then go back to normal. Next comes a heatwave. Keep your eye on the weather with H and stay prepared.

When I was in the snow biome taming a Megaloceros and a Dire Wolf, I built a 1x1 thatch house, put a campfire in it and lit it, and I was wearing full hide. I was proning with my face 1 foot away from the fire. I was still losing health slowly instead of recovering. I had to take my ass out of the biome completely so I wouldn't freeze to death

Try 2 campfires (they stack) with full fur armor. I've also seen Alpha-drop hide armor with MORE hypothermic protection than basic fur armor (gloves, specifically).'

Incidentally, I know an Argent can pick up a Megaloceros, and I suspect that it can grab a Direwolf too. A nice little stone pen would be a great place to drop things, where you can easily tranq and tame them.

Eh, I already tamed the guys but thanks anyways. And I would have gotten fur armor but that would have required me to go all the way to the snow biome (which is at the complete opposite side of the map from where I live) and kill stuff for a half hour to get 310 pelt, go all the way back to my house to craft it, and then go all the way back again. Instead of doing all that, I just tamed the two guys and toughed out the cold. My max health is 420 so it wasn't too dangerous

Yes must be a bug, my house is next door to the green super cold zone @39,29 it's always 20C less there.
Have also run into spots in water with below -30C degrees.
