WHY does bug repellent require PELT to craft???
Title kinda says it all, but I'll elaborate. I don't see how this can be "balancing" the spray, because animal fur/pelt is (as far as I know) NOT a component in making a substance made to repel insects. Maybe instead of pelt it should be either charcoal or spoiled meat or another semi-rancid material that would ACTUALLY prevent an insect from nomming on your skin. I'm not saying you should be able to craft HUNDREDS of repellents at once (they last 30 min and spoil after 5 hours as it is), but you shouldn't have to use the main component in the only armor type that keeps you alive in one region to make something that keeps you from being swarmed by bugs in another region. What do you guys think?

The developers are using pelts as currenty pelts are only good for making fur armour. There needed to be more use for pelts and to be fair pelts acting a a deterant to bugs is realistic.
I could see how a SOLID pelt can deter bugs, but how does a ground-up pelt repel bugs?

Yeah I don't like that it costs Pelt as well, does not make sense. Maybe it could cost plant species X seeds instead?

They are nerfing plant species x drop rate back to what it was before the swamp update.

They are suppose to be rare. So rare that your lucky to find even one seed gatherig plants over the course of 30 mins. Not getting 100 in less than 20 mins.

OFF- no active ingredient with fur from mammoths and wolves. I buy bug spray at the store to use IRL. Not fur. Secondly, the other option is to move all the bugs to the snow only then. Bugs all over the map here and 2 animals drop pelts in one region and to top it off it's too heavy. OR they could add a second way to craft it so that it has 2 recipes and can be usable by all level players since the bugs are all over the island / map.

I'm sure they'd like the smell of their dead comrades even less.

Working as intended... it isn't like PELT is hard to get anyway....
Not quite the point, and technically yes it is if you don't want to enter the snow biome and want to focus on the swamp more

COBALT I agree with you. I'll add the following:
What if you spawn up by the beach like I did prior to the swamp update and then you are like level 1 and these bugs were level 24 in huge hives of them coming and killing you non stop. Point is make it more accesible to lowbie players. It happened to me so I'm sure it can happen to others. It shouldn't be a snow biome only special. You have to think of other people who may not be as established in game as you. It's coming from 2 animals currently in timbuktoo. So maybe to settle this just add 2 recipes so you have 2 ways to make it as bugs exist every where currently. Just an idea if they aren't interested in switching up the mats for it. :)

Not a bad idea, as long as it's not out of reach of the lower players like you said, I'm cool with it.

I would think Chitin would be a pretty good substitute. Smell like a bug? Smell like a dead bug or possibly a bug eating thing? Then they stay away. Or they could repurpose a plant, possibly one of the currently available "junk" berries.

Mix stone, chitin, some berries, and a waterskin, and mash it up in a mortar.

Ikr? It's both logical and somewhat easy to obtain, but not so easy you can just make tons of em (and if you did they'd likely go to waste due to the spol timer, which is a good way to balance them)

Its not logical to expect a chemical to properly remain evenly distributed in suspeneion when the solute you are using is rapidly hardening cement.

Chemistry is why pelts are necessary. I personally think hides could do the trick also, but you seem intent on just making the process to get bug juice easier/cheaper by following a different path.

Cheers.
I'd just like to throw it out there that the smell of dead insects can actually attract more. Some ants, for example, will smell their dead comrades and come pick them up and carry them off to the nest or hive or whatever.

You know what's affected by the smell of its dead brethren, though?
Sharks.
So save that idea for shark repellant, if we ever get any.

Ok, good points. I'm not hellbent on making the repellent out of chitin or cementing paste, I'm hellbent on NOT making it out of pelt. Hide would seem like a good alternative as it is both animal skin and found throughout the entire map, therfore making it accessible to most/all players.

Why not a special drop from the frog? They are their natural predaters after all.
Jyandalf 2 out. 2015 às 18:53
I never understood the insect hate in the first place. Now with toads in the game, I want to see them come back in plague like proportions so I can continue making metal structure parts uninterrupted
