Tough question. I think they torpor is similiar, but the scorp is more durable and the frog can escape WAY more easily.

As far as i can tell the frog outperforms the scorp in all areas in regards to taming. That being said tranque arrow is king imho.

Pachy is the best by far due to its instant torpor damage (frog and scorp have 10second delays for theirs)
But out of the two I would say frog simply due to its ability to escape. It can hit the nob, jump away and wait the 10 seconds before going back

i was reading last night and they said the frog does more torpor then the scorp. Mount wise hands down its the frog, the thing can do it all, from farming cement paste to taming to farming pearls and has a hell of an escape bonus and not only those things mentioned but you can use your map and compass on a frog in the water, that is the win win for me..... slap some hp on it a little dmg and then up its speed even more, since it doesn't sprint in the water and its a winner.

Guys I think both are worth taming equally.

Scorpions:

Role: Dino taming assist

Positives

More effective Torpor appilcation to targets
Very good damage output
Good health pool
Eggs for taming rexs as well as frogs!
Move over terrain very well.
Swim well too.
Very easy to tame. (Especially if you want low levels for egg farming)

Negative
Not very fast on land.
Eggs are hard to harvest without large numbers tamed.

Frogs:

Role: Building material assist

Positives

Very good land and swim speed
Dont use stamina in water
Fast stamina regen
Unique long range jump
Turns about 40% of Chitin to cement paste instantly
Looks very cool and one of the most enjoyable mounts

Negatives
Takes far too much fall damage for a creature built for high jumps
Cement aquisition is on the poor side
Very low health - Even at L167 base tame level (2400)
Very low damage output
Cant attack under water so pirhanas are a pain in the ass
The two attacks are poorer ranged than the official discription would have you believe.

I can tell you now.. I kibble tamed a 112 which was 167 after tame completed. It kills targets way before the torpor is effective and because of its low health you are going to struggle to use it to knock out.

on the other hand my Scorpion was level 60 when it was able to tank rex sized health and knocks out most things in a few hits.

For tanking deadly dinos and knocking them out, the Scorpion is far more superiour, even at low levels but these two are for two different roles. The Frog is a FUN Cement maker not a dino taming aid which the scorpion is.

So I did some testing between these and while it was hard to determine which did more torpor per hit, what I was able to deduce from my testing is that scorpion stings stack ON TOP of one another, whereas Frog's tongue swipes do not stack whatsoever.

What I mean by that is that scorpion stings deal torpor damage over 10 seconds, same as frogs' attacks or nearly identical, but the benefit to the scorpion is that 3 quick consecutive stings will deal torpor over 30 seconds, all the while you just need to kite and wait for it to take effect. Frogs however do not get this benefit, and 3 quick tongue attacks will only deal torpor for the first attack, while health damage is applied from all 3.

Frogs have the agility and jumping benefits over scorpions and move/swim much faster though. So with melee damage pumped up to 900% (had to pump up my frog's health a bit because it's quite fragile at first), I found that taming smaller creatures was quite easy. A right click tongue swipe deals nearly double the damage AND torpor compared to the left click tongue strike. The only benefit to left click attacking is the range, unless you aim to tame Dodo Birds, then minimal damage is ideal.

With my frog, knocking sabertooths, raptors, doedicurus, etc was all relatively easy and just required patience and jump kiting while waiting a good amount of time between attacks. Scorpions on the other hand appeared quite effective at taming larger animals. Quick consecutive attacks, then flee over terrain while waiting for it to take effect. It's good at pulling aggro and luring your potential tame to a safer place as well. So they both have a unique role in taming, I'd say, if you stat them correctly.

P.S. It's worth noting I noticed that frogs had a very difficult time knocking out other players with any sort of armor on, until I had it's melee bumped up to 900%. Whereas scorpions seemed to have a degree of armor penetration with their stings, but it could be my imagination. It appeared the torpor affected players quicker, and with less stings, but without two perfectly identical dinos of separate species and hard numbers in my hand... it's almost impossible to be accurate.

I think frogs are better but this got me thinking and has anyone tried carrying a frog with Argent to try to tame a Quetzal? I tried with scorpion in my SP unsuccessfully. Just killed the bird I'm wondering with its tongue reach would it do better?
Dracul Oct 10, 2015 @ 1:25pm
Scorp has better armor currently and can sting underwater, frog has more diversity and much greater mobility (though wolves have the ability to push it back then jump on it when its in the 'jump' pose getting it stuck and requiring a dismount to fix, risking the rider)

Frogs are very succeptable to knockback but are a lot better at hit and run than scorpions.

Pachy does the most torpor pound for pound but has way too many flaws for taming anything but slow herbavores (which it does very well, best option for taming a Doed) due to being injured interupting the charge attack and its normal attack being too wimpy, it also has a bad habbit currently of getting stuck inside other dinos after charging, or getting stuck UNDER them after koing them.

You did you're entire test wrong then, scorp stings do not stack topor, frog tounges do not stack topor.
